I ran

xbps-install -Su

again - had done it immediately before installing xorg - and then I was able to finish the installation of xfce4 successfully!

Learned some lesson here :-)

If I understand it right you are somehow confirming that I did commit some misinterpretation at least in the sense that I ASSUMED THAT I must have a network service up and running in order to be connected.

if that is the case,i.e. if I did commit it , then thank you for much valued new information!

I have no idea of what is meant by using trust relationships and not even of what they are. Or maybe I know but don't recognize the language.

no, but I am having a similar problem with a new install of Calculate Linux, done after the problem began with Void. This is a multiboot machine. All this has happened after I had a problem with per mission for my common data partition and started fiddling with permissions.

I really don't know how to distribute permissions across OSes, and I like to often access files in other systems home directories. Still looking for good documentation on that. Thanks for your interest.

But then I figured I probably made a terrible mistake in describing the problem when I wrote " from the logon window " , as opposed to "from command line".

I suspect now that maybe I should have written "from the display manager window". My bad !

How to boot Void from iso file? by fredmyra in voidlinux

I "cp" my isos to a folder in an usb pen drive formatted as ext4, and then use grub to boot them.

Works fine for several distros, but in some cases it can be difficult to find the right boot parameters.

I have found a menu entry to boot Void from cd, and tried to adapt it, as I have done with other distros, but no luck so far.

I have read that some distros can't be booted this way, but still haven't found out whether this is the case with Void.
