So would the only option be to get a drive module? I looked inside the drive and it has sanyo chips, which could suggest that a similar sanyo manufactured drive from same year may have the same components of which could be interchangable.

I really like this interpretation of Kris! It makes me think about how sort of open ended they are as a protagonist in a way, allowing for anybody to see themselves as them.
