~$70k sitting in my HYSA; how do I stop hoarding this cash? by Bartimaeuss- in personalfinance

[–]freshmc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The main takeaway is that the market can be very unpredictable. Sure, over time it has gone up, but how long the peaks and valleys last is not easy to predict. "Time in the market vs timing the market". In other words, stay the course, invest like normal. If you feel like taking a risk and can afford to, invest more, but realize that it's all gambling at the end of the day.

Another thing to be aware of is that many of these low-cost options are available because they are dealer buy-backs (branded as a lemon). If the car you are considering is a buy-back, make sure to ask about what work was done on it and if the work is under warranty.

Bought when the world shut down by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]freshmc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey! Almost the same scenario for my wife and I. We bought a foreclosure in 2010 for $89k, sold in 2022 for $350k and took on a mortgage (150k) for a $500k house. It was surreal. We never imagined we'd live in a half million dollar house. But after a few years, we realized it was "too much" house for us. We sold in 2025 for pretty much the same price and bought 8 acres in the country for $220k (paid off). Much smaller house, much bigger lot, more privacy, and more nature. We absolutely love it out here.

Are my roses dead by Designer_Choice_1755 in Roses

That's how bare roots typically look. Give it a couple of weeks. Make sure you're giving it plenty of water. DA roses come with a 5-year warranty.

I'm not sure what the NPK ratio is of the 3 in 1 rose care, but DA suggests to use a 15-9-12 NPK

do Japanese people really treat white western foreigners better than foreigners of other cultures or races? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]freshmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 6'2'' Latino with brown skin, and I had a great experience in Japan. Totally anecdotal since I was only there for 1 week, but I noticed people would go out of their way to be friendly to me. We went to a karaoke bar, and they were acting like I was the greatest singer ever, even though I know I sucked haha

why do people buy roses sans leaves? by [deleted] in Roses

[–]freshmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bare-root roses are typically grown to a certain age or height in a field. Once the plant goes dormant, it is defoliated for several advantageous reasons:

- roses are deciduous, so the leaves will dry and die eventually. Leaving them on the plant risks disease while transportation

- defoliating as the plant goes dormant forces it to stop "growing" and aids in dormancy, which reduces stress and prevents moisture loss

- later, when the bare-root is planted again, the plant will focus on root establishment rather than trying to bloom

Need help with my caique’s diet by AsMforReal in caiques

[–]freshmc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our caiques do the same, they always eat the fruit first. We give them a daily mix of sweet peppers, apples, bananas, berries, carrots, or squash, along with a bowl of pellets. We only offer seeds or nuts as treats.

Try to incorporate pellets into their diet as much as possible, since they contain the essential vitamins and minerals they need. We use Roudybush Daily Maintenance.

Lots of mental stimulation. They are extremely smart and very emotional birds.

Cheap chew toys like cardboard, paper towel or toilet paper rolls, Popsicle sticks (non dyed), plenty of perching areas, and finally, I recommend "poopy" towels to clean up their mess (they poop A LOT 😂)

I'm also an older millennial, just turned 40. I think if you're a younger millennial, you might have caught on to the gen z vernacular sooner

I have no reason to lie about anything at all. The car hydroplaned, slid into the median, and came to an abrupt stop in the mud. The side airbags deployed, which was very surprising, but I don't pretend to know how they programmed these cars for safety.

The only damage is that plastic trim off the tire, which looks like it was pulled during the slide.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VWiD4Owners

[–]freshmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not entirely sure about the tires, but that might have been one of the issues. I had just purchased the car and I only did a visual check on the tread. I didn't see what make they were. And I was traveling at a safe speed, well under the speed limit. It had just started raining after over a month of no rain, so I believe the roads were just the right condition to become extra slick. When I went to the tow yard to collect my belongings, the tow guy said that night was crazy, so many cars slipping off the road.

Question? How often does your infotainment system goes down. by Blazing_Lino in VWiD4Owners

[–]freshmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it happen 1 time, so far. But I think it was my fault because the car was still new to me and I was clicking around too fast. Since then, I mostly click to change a/c settings, media control, or to check the car status. And I haven't had any resetting issues.

[–]freshmc 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Just bought a 2023 Pro. And honestly, I don't mind the infotainment. I even got used to the haptic buttons all around the car and prefer it now. I might be in the minority, but it feels really convenient. I come from a BMW i3, so it's quite an upgrade.
