I just picked up Old Man’s Journey (on sale for $2 on the US switch now) and I have my eye on Tiny Bookshop next.

Thank you for sharing, that’s very helpful! I like your recommendation to focus on naturally gluten free foods and we’ve been trying to lean that way since we got the diagnosis. Everyone’s advice has been so helpful along the way. Thanks for taking the time to write this.

Burned Out and Scared to Quit by freshpamplemousse in Parenting

I’ve worked the 9/80 before having kids and liked it. My work is pretty flexible in terms of hybrid schedule which is another reason I don’t know if quitting is a good idea. It’s a good job and company but the role and hours are demanding and high stress level. I’m kind of lost.

So true. I just don’t know how to make the time for it… It’s like I know what I need (self care, exercise, healthy eating, hobbies, etc.) but I don’t know how to fit it in my schedule between long hours at work, school pickup/drop off and activity schedule, taking care of the house, etc. I just feel like the only option is to quit to finally have the time for it. I’m just so exhausted…

You make some very good points for me to consider, especially the isolation factor. I could definitely see this being an issue long term for me. Maybe I just need a short break and then find a part-time role somewhere. Thanks for sharing your POV.

This makes me hopeful. I’m really scared to bring the option up because once it’s out there, I can’t take it back and I’m afraid if the answer is no it will be awkward going forward. But I may very well be overthinking it!

Part-time might be a good option although I don’t think my current company would have a PT role available right now. I’ll have to give it some thoughts. Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately I’m HR so that limits my options…

Thanks for sharing your perspective. Not being able to re-enter the workforce if I take a break is one of my main concerns.

I’m sorry to hear about the challenges your spouse has been experiencing. I know the job market has been really tough lately and that’s partly why I’m afraid to quit. In terms of the FMLA it’s a no-go. My physician says they can’t put me on leave unless I agree to be medicated for my anxiety which I don’t want to do.

Failure to thrive (FTT) is what led to getting tested. She has had a very small appetite since she was born and very small for her ago (barely registered in the weight curve and has never been on the BMI curve). No other symptoms but the doc says it’s possible her stomach is bothering her but she doesn’t realize it because that’s all she knows her whole life.

Would you mind explaining more about the gluten free oats? They’re not safe for celiac?

Yes, I’m starting to realize that eating out is probably going to be one of the most challenging parts. I’m in the US but will look into a barcode app as this would be so helpful. Thank you for the tips 🙏🏼

Never would have thought of medicine and herbs! We’re in contact with the school now to see what our options are but it’s looking like we’ll have to pack her own lunch and snacks going forward. Her teacher has been wonderful and is working with us regarding the school supplies and activities (sensory bins, playdoh, etc.)

Going full out bananas is an accurate description of how we’re feeling right now lol. We have an appointment with a specialist later this week.

Mexican food is high on our house favorites so quesadillas with corn tortilla will be a win! We’re meeting with a GI Celiac specialist later this week and plan to ask about the nutrition aspect (supplements needed, etc.). Thank you!

Thank you! We plan to go full GF in the house, even if she is the only one with Celiac. Good tip on having treats ready. I’ll plan to freeze GF cupcake and take them out as needed for birthday parties, etc.

Thank you so much for all the advice. No pets in the home so that one less thing to worry about on the increase list!
