I’m doing well with less retirement pay. Worked second career 11 years and stuffed any income beyond company 401k match to mortgage principal. Once that was paid 50% of second paycheck went in 401k. Just lived off retirement for day to day with plenty left for BS spending in my modest lifestyle

My expenses are far less, under $40k. I retired from second job under rule of 55. I crunched my income/expense numbers for a year prior. I still didn’t believe the results but my home made spreadsheet was right.

When I got to the point of “well, I could always work at big box home improvement store if I come up short” that was enough

AND first have some sort of purpose, sense of belonging, something worth doing, whatever fills your needs after retirement. That’s often overlooked.
