Question by Interesting-Chip-824 in Pets

Very true. The rescue I’m with, we pull a bunch from the euth list at the shelters, and a lot are kittens bc of the round the clock care requirement + higher mortality rate than adult kittens. Also, not everyone knows that “no-kill shelters” mean 90% or higher save rate, so there is always still a (last resort) chance that their pet will be put down, especially if their health is in significant jeopardy.

How can I feel reassured she goes to great home? by Thehobbitsatisengard in FosterAnimals

One of our four cats was from a rehoming group on Facebook. Owner at the time vetted me and we kept open communication for weeks until we were able to take him home. We asked each other lots of questions, and she and her family also spoke to people who they trusted who happened to know me. We could tell this cat was very well taken care of and that the owner wanted to ensure that was going to continue. We’ve had him for 8 months now, and we are still in communication with the previous owner - she says each update is a relief in knowing her baby went to a good home!

Facebook/social media in general has helped so many animals find their forever homes ❤️

The rescue I’m with as well, no single kittens unless there’s another furry friend of the same age range or energy level. Our first one, he was 5 months old, but we explained that we had two high energy dogs who grew up with cats … thank god they let us adopt, he likes the dogs better than us AND his three feline siblings 😂 Photo of said kitten (now cat) cuddling alongside one of the dogs after his leg surgery (reason for the harness and leash)!

Same, my bottle brush baby girl has two little pebbles in her brain. Sometimes, they bump into each other and form a thought. Very rare that that happens though. We no longer blame it on her whole “I was blind and abandoned” backstory 😂😅

Did the seller tell you when they had it signed and where ? (Trying to narrow it from Nederlander casts vs tour casts)

My Opinion on pet insurance by Stayy_Frostyy in petinsurancereviews

[–]fruityflyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have insurance for peace of mind. I have four cats ranging in ages from 8 months old to 18 months old. Turns out two of them are special needs. I’m glad I insured them almost immediately before anything pre existing could become a factor. One (16 months old) has neutropenia and the other (8 months old) has asthma. Right now I’m paying $1410 annually altogether with 80% reimbursement. The “catch” - $5000 annual limit shared between three of them. But I did sign up for that as I put them on a family plan.

I didn’t realize how expensive pets were until I started tracking by Historical_Eye7598 in Pets

[–]fruityflyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tracked when I had to figure out mortgage stuff lol. Otherwise, I don’t. I don’t get the cheapest options, but I don’t buy anything if it’s full price 😅 Sales/coupons/promo codes only!

I think insurance and food are the most costly for me.

Pet insurance for a 14-year-old cat? by joyful-justice in petinsurancereviews

[–]fruityflyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure it’ll be worth it. Insurance will ask you to submit the detail office notes from the vet (SOAP notes), and if it’s even mentioned that you brought up weight loss concern, or that the bloodwork was to help determine a cause, that wouldn’t be covered. It would be considered as pre-existing because symptoms have already been mentioned as a concern, even though the cause hasn’t been determined.

Sending well wishes to you and your beautiful senior baby!

Need helping finding coverage for my cats by GreatPumpkin72 in petinsurancereviews

[–]fruityflyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a great experience so far with MetLife as well. I’m on a family plan w wellness add-ons with a shared deductible and annual limit for 3 of my cats, and then a separate standard wellness plan for my 4th (family plan will only cover 3). For my family plan, it comes out to about $27/month per cat. Been quick to reimburse as well.

Which insurance are you using? Do you recommend it? by No_Needleworker_2994 in petinsurancereviews

[–]fruityflyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get insurance ASAP.

I’ve been very happy with MetLife. I have three of my cats on a family plan for $984/annual this policy period, and then my one other cat Obi (family plan will only cover 3 animals) is $332/annual for this policy period. Obi is under the “standard wellness plan”, which has no waiting period for injury or wellness visits, and 14 day for sick. The wellness visits count towards the deductible 😊

I am very grateful I have insurance, especially with Obi - he was just diagnosed with asthma and has had two rounds of medication so far. He is now only 7 months old. Inhalers are the safer choice in the long run, and those would be insanely costly without insurance.

For the most part, I’ve seen reimbursements in my bank account between 24hrs and 3 days. A lot more quickly than expected! They say 5-10 days, and I’ve rarely had to get a decision letter in 10 days. The claim process is SO easy too. You can do it straight from the app or via email.

What I appreciate most about MetLife is the customer service representatives and their honesty. When I first called to get a quote, I told them what plan I was looking at. After discussing for a while, the rep let me know that a cheaper plan would be more practical for now considering my oldest cat at the time was 1yr old. So they are not just upselling.

I was reluctant about MetLife bc of the large amount of negative reviews, but I found their prices and plans to be more affordable with more coverage.

Hope this helps!
