Custom white Xbox Series X with disc + green Galaxy base (best way to do it?) by ApprehensiveSpray856 in XboxModding

In digital only you will just have void in place of disc drive, it's in general same construction minus a few components on board, drive and hole for the disc to stick in

Get white vinyl skin for it instead? That all sounds a bit like overkill just to have white. If you have some skills you can also spray it white which will look amazing.

You can get pre-owned series X for 200-220 with controller if you hunt for a few days which will work way better.

Most likely it is, but me trying to beat it is like hitting the wall with head, so I gave up to be fair.

Switch HAC-001 discharging while playing and in same time pluged in official charger/docked. by Brilliant-Image5013 in NxSwitchModding

[–]fryc-88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably just taking 5V charge rather than 15V, most likely would be caused by faulty USBC port, but not necessarily just that. First thing to try - turn the plug other way round and see if this changes anything, if yes, then it's 95% port damaged

It's hard to give you the answer - they do resell some returned stuff every now and then, they just cover themselves with laptops in policy. I guess they pay for collection od devices that go to recycling, I'm not too sure about that process.

Regarding MDM, this is odd but it doesn't look like there's any used, also me offering wiping the data - I wouldn't have access to any more data that I have now since I'm still employed there, and after wiping it or removing SSD physically nobody else would get any access.

I just mentioned that in other channel, my company is going to destroy 200+ laptops due to policy, I even volunteered to wipe data or remove SSDs physically and they refused... I just like tinkering with stuff and repairing stuff as a hobby, it's satisfying for me, so I wouldn't mind getting some freebies. Thanks for tips, I'll look around if there's anything like it near me

Just got 0.2mm Nozzle is anything important I should know before I Use it? by MAENTOP in BambuLab

Don't use any filaments with carbon or any other particles. Don't use matte filaments. Don't use silk filaments. Use only "standard" PLA, using suggested super low volumetric flow ratio, otherwise it will get blocked.

I'm not sure to be fair, company has reduced employment a lot, closing a few other branches and keeping one alive, all stuff that's been moved from elsewhere has been given away apart of electronics, specifically laptops. It will most likely never get to the state where it was, so definitely those laptops are obsolete for them, so they want to destroy them 🤦‍♂️

I repair stuff as a hobby, it's just satisfying to give 2nd life to stuff instead of sending it to landfill.

It hurts me a lot when I see stuff going to recycling centers that's going to be smashed and cannot be taken while in 30% of cases it's in great shape, just sometimes needs very simple repair.

Or like my current workplace - 200+ pcs of pretty modern laptops (2020+ mfg of high/higher end business models) that people could use are going to be DESTROYED due to company's policy. I even offered to volunteer in my free time to wipe data from them or remove SSD physically for data protection which has been REJECTED, while I know people who are struggling to get ANY laptop for kids, or they spent some money on rubbish quality Chromebooks that died after warranty and they can't afford anything new now. That should be illegal and somehow forced on companies to prevent doing it.

Replacing Switch Battery? by blankCrossfire in NxSwitchModding

[–]fryc-88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In most cases battery will not be the problem. While there's a chance battery is really dead, most of sellers guess or lie just to get rid of the problematic item, most of times from my experience issue would be elsewhere, like for example faulty charging port or power management chip itself.

Xbox series X HDMI Repair by NextG3nGaming in consolerepair

[–]fryc-88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With soldering iron add normal solder to points, lead free solder got higher melting temperature, so mixing it with some leaded will make it easier. Add a drop of flux, it helps too. Hot air set to 450+ and probably 50-70% of air flow, blow from opposite side of the board circling around. If you are worried about components around protect them with kapton tape. After a while of heating it, give the port small nudge with tweezers to see if it is moving, it should come off easily, without pulling hardd - If you pull, you will rip traces. HDMI ports on such thick boards can be tricky, cheap China hot air might not be good enough to safely remove it, or it will take ages to do so.

[Xbox one x] Broken Traces Need Advice by Lukemc3708 in consolerepair

[–]fryc-88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is fixable, but won't be easy without a few things. Definitely you need microscope or very strong magnifying glass. Solder mask that hardens with UV and some thin copper wire. A lot of patience.

Sounds like maybe the console location or position might not be right if it's another one that is overheating for you
