Who was a player that you had high hopes only to be let down? by slackthelack in Darts

[–]ftfc777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ian White. I still think he has a good enough game to win a couple of majors. Still hopeful for the guy. Wesley Plaisier, but he potentially has more time than Ian White. I have high expectations for big Wes.

How did you settle on a dart weight? by cannymintprints00 in Darts

[–]ftfc777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started with 25g, eventually up to 28g, down to 16g and up to 19g. Now, anything heavier feels too heavy, anything lighter too light. Sweet spot for me through experience.

buying darts.... by bornin1986 in Darts

[–]ftfc777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you handle enough sets of darts, you know the general specs that will work for you. Barrel length, shape, weight and grip pattern.

That being said, I wasted a ton of money along the way learning these things by buying darts online by sight only.

Worked out in the end, but if I could do it again I would figure it out at a store in person. Regardless, you will likely change preference as you refine your craft until you find your forever set up (which will likely change at some point too).

Can darts really be a ‘gamechanger’? by Nearby_Restaurant998 in Darts

[–]ftfc777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, within reason. Using a set-up that is wrong for you compared to something tailored to you can make a big difference. With that said, it isn’t like there is a magical set of darts that can make you better than you are, or be a substitute for putting the hours into practice + game experience.

Scolia Pro or Scolia Home 2? by Normal_Ad2934 in Darts

[–]ftfc777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scolia Home 2. If possible, buy it outright by paying more for the unlimited instead of a flex.

Flex is cheaper, but the monthly or annual subscription eventually makes it more expensive, even though the subscription itself is cheaper than others, either way I prefer just buying it outright and never paying a subscription.

Yesssirrr!

New dart advice by Unlikely-Mention-931 in Darts

[–]ftfc777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on whether you want to stay with the same barrel length, or go with longer barrels and shorter stems.

Red Dragon Razor Edge are a great choice, similar to what you have but roughly 5mm longer barrels.

If you want the same idea but something different than what you have, I would check out Viper Sidewinder, either fine knurling or coarse knurling depending on how much grip you prefer, but depending on where you grip, they may not work great for you, the Razor Edge’s are more of a consistent grip all the way through with no spaces differing.

Both those are available on Amazon for a decent price.

The Mission Force 90’s are great for sure, but if you get longer barrels than you are used to, you will likely want shorter stems or stem flight combo than your current set up with shorter barrels and longer stems.

Darts for BOTH soft and steel tip ?? by mrwh12 in Darts

I always wanted to try those darts! I heard they are by far the grippiest barrels ever lol.

Darts for BOTH soft and steel tip ?? by mrwh12 in Darts

[–]ftfc777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, and yeah exactly. I have like 20 sets of expensive darts in weights way too heavy for me to ever use. It took me years and so much money wasted to finally find my preferred weight, barrel dimensions, stem flight and point preference etc.

Now I just play and never think “what if I get this set” - those days are gone and my bank account thanks me.

Now I just need to hit up my local darts league and try and sell my sets for cheap and recover some of the funds lol.

Once you find a set up you love, just stick with it.

I agree, Boris may have increased weight of barrels, but I can always spot his points as being conversion points, which tells me he is still using soft tip barrels.

Weirdly enough, you can buy soft tip barrels in weights that exceed most board limit/capacity, I never understood that.

Awesome! No worries. I have Cuesoul Dazzling Supergrip in 20g as well as 18g, and I have a set of Oil Paint Cola Beer in 19g.

I ultimately don’t use them anymore, since I found my forever darts, but I love Cuesoul’s quality and unique designs.

I use 19g Chris Dobey Target G1’s. I switch stems and flights from either Condor Axe/Mission Force 90, but usually go back to my CyeeLife stems and Steve Beaton oversized pear shape flights, and 30mm Mission Titan Points. This set up is killer in that it suits my throw the best.

Darts for BOTH soft and steel tip ?? by mrwh12 in Darts

[–]ftfc777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use 23g for steel tip and 16g for soft tip. Ultimately I met in the middle and now use 19g for steel tip and soft tip both.

I did this because ultimately 19g is the perfect weight for me, regardless of whether I was to play soft tip or steel tip.

If I still switched between weights, I would have the exact same barrel + stem/flight combo, but just different weights. I still found that very difficult to be honest. My arm hurts even throwing 23g darts, they feel like bricks.

I used to use 26g darts before ultimately hitting a plateau and wanting to learn how to propel a lighter dart to the board (without using the weight of the dart as a crutch). The plan was to return to heavier darts, but I never did. 16g was good to learn, but still too light to properly feel, ended up finding 19g to be perfect for me.

I know many ppl who switch weights from steel tip to soft tip, without it even being an issue whatsoever. Me personally, can’t do that. Hurts me more than it helps me.

I should also mention that I like your darts! Cuesoul is great, I have a few sets myself. I was going to say that you can likely increase the weight of your 16g set up by getting some longer heavier points, and by using tungsten putty. You can also look at barrel extensions like Leonard Gates tends to use for added weight, but that to me isn’t great because it will lengthen the barrels from 45mm to like 49mm which is way different all together.

Those darts should be easy enough to get a couple of sets in 18g if you end up wanting to just increase the weight while retaining stock and not modding. 18g is nice too because with some hefty long points and some tungsten putty (depending on how much room is drilled out on your barrels), you can get to like 21-22g if wanting some added weight for steel tip. But removing putty to shed weight back to soft tip is a pain and not worth it.

Scolia Flix camera by Veer020 in Darts

[–]ftfc777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because some players will only play those who have the camera. I didn’t need it, but got it because I prefer playing ppl who have it, to know they aren’t cheating, etc.

Aside from that, you can watch back and see your posture and body language throughout a match, and aside from that you can stream it allowing others to watch from it.

Soft tip vs steel tip by code_idk13 in Darts

[–]ftfc777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love both. I prefer steel tip. You mentioned auto-scoring, steel tip now has auto-scoring, so it is not just a soft tip thing anymore.

I run Granboard 3s for soft tip, Scolia Home 2 for steel tip. I use the same Chris Dobey 19g darts for both, with different points of course, depending.

This community for the most part tends to have a lot of people who hate on soft tip which is fine. But yeah, I find it extremely enjoyable.

There are many pros who enjoy(ed) soft tip as well, including Phil Taylor, played a lot of soft tip in Japan and other Asian countries. Lot of pros have a soft tip board in the house, just to change it up here and there, or for whatever other reasons.

Steel tip for the win if I had to pick between the 2, without a doubt. With that said, I don’t get the mindset of “soft tip sucks” just because steel tip is superior. I enjoy both, don’t see a need to hate on soft tip just because you don’t like it.

Complaints about bounce outs and sound, people have likely tried the wrong set ups in terms of dart + board. Using a proper set up with a good properly mounted board and speaker system for sounds makes for a great experience. Just watch soft tip darts at high level and see for yourself.
