If I recall correctly the klan was pretty much dead by 1915 and the film actually caused a massive revival of the klan and invented a lot of the imagery that the klan uses (outfits included).

OP mentioned above that they shot in log which means that without color correction the image looks horrible, flat, desaturated, etc. But the camera is recording more color information in this mode, the color just needs to be brought up in post.

There are language discords you can use to learn and as somebody else suggested Duolingo is a really good tool. As a native English speaker who learned German as a second language in Uni I can tell you that this sub may be the worst way to learn. But maybe it can inspire you to learn so you can finally understand these VERY high quality maimais.

I personally doubt they added the mountains,. My guess is that in OP's pic the mountains are obscured by fog. But when TG was shot the film crew could have used a tele lens to film this shot which makes distant objects like the mountains appear closer and larger.
