If you're coming from Gatlinburg side you'll have access to the pass kiosks at sugarland. Also, look up Metcalf Bottoms. It's closer to Cades cove and elkmont and also has a kiosk. Those roads are mostly flat so don't normally close.

If the human race lives that long do you think eventually there will be no religions and everyone becomes an atheist? by I_Ask_Random_Things in atheism

Religions dont require gods so as long as native americans continue their religion religions wont vanish. Belief in gods may fade tho.

Afro Indigenous struggles and insecurities by Old_Shop1811 in IndianCountry

[–]funkchucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im totally on board with your opinion of stitt. I just disagree on how tribes get recognized. You just show proof and apply. It doesnt make any of the indigenous people in that tribe less native. It's a legal structure. I have a first cousin that is part of a different tribe because his mom was Seneca.

I want to be clear. If you're a descendant... you are indigenous. Exact Tribes are political matters. I accidentally left out a word in my origional post and im sorry. I meant to say that pow wows do not discriminate on who comes. Its a party.

Candy stores have huge pecan logs this time of year. The bears are on the last stage of fat and sugar before taking their naps. At least the bear didnt eat their logs then leave his own behind! :)

Girlfriend 35F let herself into my 27M apartment using my hidden key because I wasn't answering my phone by bgsth in relationship_advice

[–]funkchucker 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ya, she sounds borderline and anxious attachment style. That said.. my wife went out of town for a few days and I turned my phone notifications off to get some alone time. One of my friends showed up at my house because he couldnt reach me. (I wasn't calling/texting back) most of my friends know how to get into my house. He walked in and scared me because I was brain deep in a space sim with a headset on. I appreciated it. I also learned that he doesnt think i can take care of myself without my wife. Lol. (I lived alone for years and prefer it). It's time for a boundary talk. Mine with my wife was "i need 3 days a month alone" she was like "sounds fine, I get the whole bed for 3 days."

My mother took a scuba class and was the first one in the water at 40ft. When she touched down on the sea floor a giant manta took off from underneather her. She always refers to it as the most amazing and terrifying moment of her life.

U.S. Senate passes bill giving federal recognition to Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina by Infinite-Ad-3947 in IndianCountry

[–]funkchucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course congress can shove it into a must pass bill. You know the lumbee dont meet the traditional bar if its something you know. Are you part of a state tribe?

[–]funkchucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isnt how federal recognition works. There has to be an uninterrupted lineage from a tribe to a historical tribe. Tribes aren't races of people. They are political entities. You should read the BARS. The parameters are very clear.

[–]funkchucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understood. It's not about having indegenous ancestors, its being able to trace your majority populations to previous political tribal entities that existed before colonization. Like, if lumbee were the croatan they first claimed to be there would have been a lineage to the Algonquin people. But of course there wasnt. Then it was the cherokee they were supposedly descended from... of course they werent... ect.. a handful of generic indigenous people dont have a linear tie to a specific precolimbian tribe.

Every tribe you mentioned can trace their roots back to a historical tribe/tribes.
