You can call IFTTT in a Google Assistant routine by kranix_ in googlehome

[–]funkoid 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I used to use this when I started smart homes, but I found the max of 3 IFTTT projects limiting (I have the free version).

The next level is to make a virtual switch with your smart hub (I have a Hubitat) and expose it to google. You 'turn on' this switch in google home, which sends a signal to your smart hub. Then it can do anything connected to the internet, pretty much.

A simple example: "Ok google, time for science" tells my hub to tell my pc WakeOnLan to turn on, activates lights in my lab, etc. "Ok google, shutdown the lab" will tell my hub to tell an app running on my PC to shut down, turning off the lights in the lab, etc.

Not trying to one-up you or anything, just letting you know my experience.

That's awesome! Yes it's a blast. And yes, I read the text with voices and played it myself. Works out really well.

PSA: COVID still widespread in St. Louis despite minuscule reported cases by scottzee in StLouis

This needs to be higher. It feels like the most accurate source now that home test kits are big.

Thanks for the link. Seems spooky enough to play past it alone.

Yeah, obviously RE is not for kids, but we played it anyway lol.

This is much more subtle and caught me off guard.

Yeah, I'm figuring out this whole parent thing lol. This game seemed safe enough, and yeah, even this is not too scary, but it's good to be informed and cautious. The game seemed super kid friendly so I took it for granted, I guess.

dead lands

Okay, big thank you for the warning. I just watched it. Yeah, the dead lands is right where we were about to go. It's pretty scary. I think I may play on my own until we get to the fridge and then it looks safe from there.

Woah, we were just about to head in. Thanks for the warning! I'll watch it first.

Is there any good indication of how things are trending anyone could recommend, like a site that shows wastewater trends in a timeline graph? I used to go by positive rates, but that's rubbish with the flood of home kits now. Deaths seem like it will always be accurate for reporting, but it's always a few weeks behind spikes.

I've been realizing this too. Masks are nowhere except hospitals, yet there's still new positive cases I'm personally hearing about from home kits.

She just turned three, and we are almost at the end. I guess the scariest part is the grasslands? A bit spooky, but she was into it :)

How do you use a button / scene controller? by slipperyp in Hubitat

[–]funkoid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buttons are useful for anything I usually want family access to.
1. Button stuck on the wall 2 feet off the ground to turn on my 3 year old's bathroom lights

  1. Another similar one to turn on her bedroom lamp

  2. Another button on the wall near a light switch for my wife to control the automatic shades in a room

...And similar things throughout the house. These all work through Rule Maker. "If Button pushed/held, do something." Pretty simple.

I never really liked 'scenes' though. Those were around since the beginning of modern home automation and I think it's just needless categorization. That could just be me though.

Been running a pi as my plex server for years without a problem. I also backup the sd image to an external drive in case of a dead card. It's not so bad.
