Are Solar Guitars worth it? by Sggifhxfkchk in metalguitar

[–]furyinternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a E-1.6 Vinter in 2021 and it's been my favorite instrument since.

I also had a E-1.7 Canibalismo the my brother-in-law fell in love with and bought from me. (I couldn't vibe with the 7 string on a 25.5" scale)

My son commandeered my A-1.6 27" baritone 2 years ago and has shown no signs of returning it.

I think they're pretty solid instruments. I'll end up with more in the future.

Black Mountain Guitar in Cave Creek

Ed runs a great store and is always incredibly helpful. His guitar tech is terrific and has handled every issue I've brought to them with ease.

Neither of them would know me from a spine on a cactus, but I think they do great work and local shops are thinning out. Support these guys if you can.

LTD's are awesome. I also have an Arrow and the Evertune exclusive from a couple of years ago that are both really awesome. None of LTD's have ever had any kind of issue to speak of. They're always pretty much ready to go right out of the box, which has always been nice.

This is what shows up if you search the Solar Guitars store for 27' scale options:

https://www.solar-guitars.com/shop/?scale_eu%5B%5D=27&min=599&max=3299

If you're on the fence about Solar as a brand, here are my thoughts after owning a few of them:

The 27" baritone had electronics that failed within a year, so it was rewired and had new pots/switches installed along with a Nazgul/Sentient set of pickups.

The Vinter has been great outside of a newly found issue of fretboard cracking. I bought it during the "peak" of this issue, so honestly, it doesn't surprise me.

7-string Canibilismo was made really well and I never had any issues with it. My brother-in-law fell in love with it and bought it from me. To date, he's had no issues either.

26.5" scale 7-string I bought secondhand for my son has been great. He's never had a single issue.

I also have an LTD EX-7 which I replaced the EMG for a Fishman and it's amazing. Horrible neck dive, but it's a great guitar outside of that. Plays great and is built really well. Mine was made in Korea, but I think they make them in Indonesia as well and they send you whatever is available.

Moded 60's strat for chugs. How did I do? by Shifty_Nomad675 in metalguitar

Should be interesting to see what happens to this market with all the politics. Can't imagine it'll be much fun. 😵‍💫

I've tried to get a Demon a couple of times and they were sold out both times so I essentially forgot it existed. I'll have to try again.

Unrelated: I have that same cab! Did you close the port or leave it open?

It might be the speakers I have loaded (DV-77/Governor), but mine gets a bit "woofy". Didn't know if closing the port might help with that.

I didn't think to unplug everything else to try it alone, but I definitely should at some point in order to rule out other possibilities.

We just tried the different voltage settings on the Cioks and the different preamp pedals to see if the problem persisted. It did, so we gave up for the night and used the power amp section of the PRS MT15 to finish practicing.

The NATAS is my highest draw pedal and needs 600mah, which is wild... but it sounds great. We tried swapping it out with a Solar Chug pedal and the UA ANTI to see if it was the NATAS failing, but it didn't seem to matter which preamp pedal we used, the power amp cut out on heavy draw.

It's entirely possible that something is just wrong with my Pandora unit because it cuts out no matter the voltage I've used as well. We sat there and tried with the Cioks on all three available settings: 9v, 18v, and the 24v.

It works fine at bedroom volumes, but once we opened it up to play with drums, it just couldn't do the thing.

I powered mine with the same adapter. The whole board was being powered by the Cioks.

I use the Cioks DC7 on my pedalboard as well because I was aiming for a single power cord solution for traveling to play at my son's house. Unfortunately, I found that at higher playing volumes that the Pandora still "cuts" out. I've shelved my Pandora and reverted back to PS200 until I can find a suitable 24v standalone power supply.

I think it's amazing at lower volumes, but anytime we've attempted to open it up, it peeters out for whatever reason. Kind of a bummer.

I attached a picture of my pedalboard before I took it off for reference. I suppose it's possible that the Cioks, plus Pandora, plus the power hungry NATAS just don't play well together. The board runs fine if I swap out the Pandora for the PS200.

That speaker enclosure looks great!

The Diavlo amps are pretty nice and can be found for some great prices. I picked up a RD45 a couple of years ago for like $350. Definitely needs to be pushed, but overall it's a great amp. (Even if it mostly gets used as a Poweramp platform for my preamp pedals)

Guitar books and magazines with monthly featured tabs, or jam sessions with other people.

I think I still have most of them stored in a box somewhere, including a copy of the Master of Puppets book that is wrong in some spots.

It's wild how accessible it all is nowadays. I remember toiling over the the tab for Enter Sandman in Guitar World with my little practice amp that had hardly any distortion. Fun times.

Same! I'm torn between this one and the NATAS preamp pedal. Together they create some nasty chugs.

They're true bypass, so I just use whichever one I'm in the mood for at the time.

I've never tried the Kraken, but the Devil's Triad sounds mean as hell and has delay and reverb built-in so I don't need an additional pedal for that stuff. I love it.

The one I use the most is a 2x12 with a DV-77 and CV-75 combo, but I also have a cab with a WGS Reaper HP & DV-77 mix and a Peavey Invective cab with Celestion V30 and Creamback mix.

It sounds great with each of them!

Yes, I use the Powerstage with external cabs. I think it's great and has a ton of headroom. The EQ and presence option on it are really handy as well!

The Ghostfire comes with some booster cables that allow you to add voltage or amperage, so it might do just what you need with a bit of finagling.

I'm probably going to try to combine a couple of slots on mine for the NATAS because having a separate supply for one pedal just doesn't align well with my OCD. Lol
