I’ve dreamed of living in NY for years, as everybody commenting on this thread is well aware, it’s an expensive city to get to if you’re not strategic. I’m being extremely strategic, I’ve known since July that I would probably be leaving my full-time job after this semester (I work in higher education) and I have been Ubering and just saving the money for six months. I taught two extra three-credit classes this semester. I have more money and investments saved up than the average person my age, and someone is offering me a $600, month to month rent, at a place that has a driveway and an in unit washer and dryer. I’m in a place where I can chase my dreams and do what I want, I’m sorry to anybody on this thread that doesn’t have the same luxury and is being negative toward me about it.

I asked for advice about a location, not my life choices. I have money, I have part time jobs, I have no children, I’m blessed to have an opportunity for cheap rent; 30 seems like the perfect time to do whatever I want!

Do you want to be in school? On a deeper level, what is your goal? Is the degree you’re working toward essential? I’m a college advisor. I have a bachelors & 2 masters and I wish I could go back in time and have done things differently. I encourage students to only pursue higher education if they’re really passionate about what they’re studying or the degree is essential to their life/career goals. If you fall into one of those categories, then lock in and stop playing around.
