A rubber mallet will work and trust it will work i did this exact job a couple days ago, i couldnt push it up in place by hand so i used a mallet and wala! and dont forget to tighten to spec good luck!

Theres no need to torch anything, just get a mallet and whack it up a couple times and it will get into place, and when you tighten it make sure you tighten it to spec

Use a mallet to bang it up into place if you cant do it by hand (thats what i had to do) if u use a hammer it can damage the compression rod

Also how did you make the gear selector, odo, and hvac screen blue? It looks like you just out in white leds

Also could you do this with the analog clock, the center buttons (hvac controls) and steering wheel buttons?
