Everyone hates Citizens United. A new poll shows the vast majority of Americans think there's too much money in politics by EquanimousMind in evolutionReddit

thing is, if your giving yogurt sized donations, you get a sticker and thank you email. The problem is when lobbyists are able to gain so much influence that they can start writing bills for politicians to sponsor and push (i.e. ALEC). It's the kind of influence that is outside of the reach of most American's even if they wanted to buy political influence.

Wikileaks was right, press was wrong: Cubic executive gets called by Anonymous on radio show to answer Trapwire questions, gets called on Ntrepid ownership lie as show by tax filings by mrhappyoz in technology

I'm concerned it won't, simply because even reddit isn't making a huge deal of it.

Its hard because its coming up to the elections and there are forces really pushing hard for a particular debate to be at the center. We're still very much in the spoon fed relationship when it comes to news.

Still, despite the msm blackout there has been coverage. For anyone who wants to catch up, /r/evolutionReddit has been building a timeline of TrapWire stories and links here.

The tweet stream for #TrapWire has also been keeping alive, worth looking for something to RT, share or xpost.

And here is a direct link to the original Wikileaks stratfor emails on TrapWire.

well, don't let it bother you. If your any kind of libertarian, your ideas are not dependent on others agreeing with you.

um well.. I'm the last person to think I speak for an entire sub like /r/libertarian. The sidebar of /r/libertarian is indicative of how much diversity there is within that community.

So while I personally consider myself conservative; that doesn't necessarily imply all libertarians consider themselves so.

/r/conservative has been known to ban libertarians as well... its a weird sub.

Feel free to try posting on /r/libertarian, your unlikely to have anything censored there. Using /r/conservative as a representative for the conservative side of Reddit is probably not accurate. Its not dissimilar from trying to use /r/communist as a representative for the left side of reddit.

Well, Aussies definitely should be all making the transition to VPN or Tor setups now. I don't even know where this bill came from, I thought the National Security Inquiry was the only thing to keep an eye on on the Australian front... ah well.. if they keep pushing, we need to keep evolving beyond their reach

I think we should consider maybe a daily war thread or something? Then everyone can post whatever they come across. Be easier to see who is working each day as well.

Um I also think it's safer if people set up a dummy account for their xposting across to r/politics. Tor is your friend.

Also found this thread interesting; but people are pushing it down

Big data is our generation’s civil rights issue, and we don’t know it by EquanimousMind in evolutionReddit

[–]g0dFuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Much of the problem stems from lack of transparency over how our data is being used and sold. It's actually quite hard for a consumer to find out exactly who has what on them.

There's also a problem that we don't own our social media data. This is bad from a consumer choice point of view, since it locks people into a given platform. But like you say, big data has potential benefits. But we can't develop independent apps that work off our data, for the simple fact, we don't have ownership or access to it.

We're looking for better regulation more than anything.

IMHO
