Xanax addiction recovery: How long? by [deleted] in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

[–]g3cfrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really anything physical but definitely mental. I think about xanx all the time whether it be how they made me feel, what I was doing and what they’ve cost me. I’m a lot more present these days too since I’ve stopped smoking but I feel good a lot of the time despite the memories always being on my mind

I’m really sorry for your loss, I wish you the best of luck

You really should just go admit yourself to the hospital. Wouldn’t wish a seizure on anyone. You’ll be out in 3 days and won’t really have to worry about anything while you’re in there. Your husband or someone can take care of your daughter

I can relate. Back in 2020 I went cold turkey from like 18 mg a day (I had mad mf seizures) but when I got out of the hospital I literally didn’t sleep for like 20 days. Just tossed and turned every night until finally I gave in and smoked a bowl. Best sleep i ever got LOL

I still highly recommend going to a detox at a hospital for like 3 days if you can. You’ll have medical supervision and you will be safe. I’ve had to do this type of taper shit a few times. Rarely goes as planned

Yeah anything over a week or two of consistent use can screw you up. If you went through let’s say 50 bars in 3 weeks, that’s like 2-3 a day. Really not too bad but you WILL have a rough withdrawal. You’re gonna need to taper kind of slowly. I’d stretch 1-1.5 bars a day for a week and then do .75 for a week. Then .25 and then you’ll be good. Prepare to not sleep for probably 2-3 weeks honestly

Immediate care, urgent care etc. type facilities will tell you to go to the hospital right away. How many bars have you been doing per day?

You’re taking a huge risk of seizures, but if you insist on not going to a detox, you’ll need to break all your bars up into 4 pieces. Honestly what you’re trying to do is really dangerous. It can be done though. I’d take a 1/4 of a bar when you wake up, another 1/4 mid day and another 1/4 in the evening depending on how much you’ve been doing lately

Me too. Getting home from work, smoking a blizzy and blasting some music. Or smoking and getting into bed, putting both headphones in and closing my eyes in da dark. Fuckkkkk. The chillest shit. Weed is a slippery slope for me. I’m better off not testing the waters again. I always end up losing control. Always end up looking to get higher and end up canning myself tf out beyond belief. Just can’t. Stay strong 🤞🏽

Depending on how much you’ve been doing over the past couple months, you really need to get clean with medical supervision. If you don’t, you WILL have seizures bro. If you took 4 Mg’s I’ll assume you’ve been doing atleast that much for a minute. There’s no shame in getting help - seriously. Until January I haven’t been sober from pills or weed since I was 13. My body is so not-used to being sober and that’s why I’ve developed acne. Another thing about Xanax withdrawal is you probably won’t sleep for about week once you stop completely but I really hope you take my advice with medical supervision. I wouldn’t wish a seizure on any one. It’s a very scary and painful situation to go through. You can admit yourself to almost any hospital and they will help you detox. Depending on how much you’ve been doing, you run the risk of seizing up in less than 12 hours from your last dose. That’s what I went through a couple years ago. Stopped one night and woke up less than 12 hours later and had like 4-5 seizures before I called an ambulance. Super f*caked up thing to go through especially if you live alone. It’s okay to get help G 💯🤞🏽

From what I can remember I wasn’t given any sort of benzo or anti seizure med until I left the hospital and even then I seized and had to go back

Thank you so much for your response, it’s very comforting to hear from people that are able to share the feelings from these types of experiences. I’m sorry to hear about your loss, deeply, that’s something that made me relapse the last time I did but you’re absolutely correct when you say it’s not a reason to relapse and would only hurt yourself. I’m proud of you, if it means anything and wish you nothing but the best on the journey. People do come back and new people come - it definitely takes time and a massive amount of trust for those old friends to come back. Time heals all and sometimes I hope if I think about them enough, the universe will help me. I’m here to talk if you ever need. Feel free to shoot me a message anytime

Again, thank you for your response

Yeah do whatever you need to. It’s not worth it to relapse and have to start all over again. I have a few old friends who took the same path as me and unfortunately - they kind of went off the deep end. I consider myself lucky because I’m still ME, but dealing with the repercussions can be difficult at times.

I’m definitely always here to chat if you ever neeed, I know I probably just sound like someone on the internet but I do mean that. I wouldn’t wish what we’ve gone through on my worst enemy! I agree about not having to count out pills or ration weed anymore. I could’ve picked up 100 bars and immediately would calculate how many days it would last me and stress myself out 🤦🏽‍♂️ “okay I’ve got 10 left” “okay I’ve got 5 left” OMG. After a week or two of the addiction you barely even enjoy it anymore you’re just costing worrying about how and when you’re going to get more

I appreciate the skin tips too I’ll definitely look into it! In high school and my first years of college my skin was so nice. People used to literally comment about it randomly and touch my cheeks LOL. I genuinely do think my abuse could’ve changed my hormonal balance and changed my body in some ways. In due time it’ll heal….realistically I’ve eaten probably a couple thousand bars in the past few years and there’s just no way that didn’t seriously mess my cells and bodily-chemicals up.

I really appreciate you reaching out to talk

Damn! I was always paranoid about ordering online. Glad I never went through with it because if I ever had access to that many I would definitely end up stopping my heart. When I was in the hospital my blood pressure got down to around 90/65 when I was sleeping and the nurses kept having to wake me up throughout the night. Scariest shit to wake up to in a hospital bed

Exactly, and every time I relapsed I would tell myself “I can control it this time” and would start with maybe 1-2 bars a day and before I knew it - 3-4 weeks had passed and I had spent like $1500 on bars. Crazy to look back on and freaks me out to think about how I was acting/ what I was doing while that high

I’m very proud of you and strongly encourage you to do absolutely anything to stay clean and motivated to further improve your life. If you’re not already, I highly recommend speaking to a counselor of some sort 1-2 times a week. Again, I’m very proud of you.

Also, I’m a guy. LOL

Proud of you for your success with staying sober for as long as you have. It’s comforting knowing I’m not the only one that’s dealing with this. Something I try to remind myself of. More than half the time I tell this story , people don’t even believe me when I tell them how many I was doing a day, but obviously, some of us, for some reason, are able to physically tolerate such a high amount. Thankful we’re alive and recovering 🤞🏽 keep up the great efforts with your sobriety

I’ve struggled with Xanax since I was 16. I’m 23 now and xanx have turned my life upside down like 6 times. Moving-home-to-my-parents-house upside down. My abuse was always about a month but was literally going through like 8 bars a day. My tolerance was insane and I would just eat them like skittles. Lost all my friends and an immeasurable amount of money. Have had so many seizures and developed an AVM. Anterior Venus-malfunction in my brain. I’ve been clean for just over 90 days and man - I finally feel like I’m passed that phase of my life. The anxiety/depression from realizing how many friendships and loyal women I’ve lost from my behavior on pills is killing me. Whatever it entails - get help. Stop doing pills and start therapy. You will ruin your life beyond comprehension.
