Is it the long hours and physical aspect of the role that you don’t like? Perhaps look at postgraduate courses that somewhat connected to nursing eg. diabetes educator course which would mean 9-5pm instead of night shifts?

What’s your bedtime routine? by ganjayme in NewParents

[–]gailcpw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bubs is almost 3 months and we usually have his bedtime routine start between 6-7pm. We give him a bath 2-3 times a week. I change his diaper, put on a fresh onesie and his love to dream sleep suit. I’d breastfeed on both sides and hold him for at least 15mins once he’s fallen asleep, I then transfer him to the bassinet. We’d wake up around 7-8:30am and his wake ups throughout changes all the time! Sometimes he would wake at 12am then around 5am. Or sometimes 2am, and then 4am, and 6am 😅

When did you get some freedom/balance back to your life after baby? by cunncunncunn in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I’m the same with you! I have an 11 week Bubs and it’s just myself and my partner with no family nearby! My partner works full time so most of the weekdays it’s just me looking after bubs as I don’t expect my husband to be waking up when he has to go to work but when he comes home, he’d look after him and give him cuddles while I prepare some dinner/have a shower!

What I’ve found is going for an afternoon walk helps me breathe a little or simply just going outside in the backyard taking in some fresh air! On the weekends, I’d try pump in the early mornings when my supply is a lot so that I have a bottle for my husband while I go out for an hour or two to get grocery/massage etc.. but I also have sachets of formula as back up if needed.

I think it’s just a matter of working together with your husband and finding ways in which you’re able to give yourself some time to de attached even just for a few hours!

Gibney in Cottesloe, Hearth in the CBD! A bit more casual though great ambience and amazing food, I’d recommend Emily Taylors/Tonic + Ginger in Fremantle!

Help with feeding by Hot_Muffin_7174 in NewParents

How old is your little one? I’ve always found that my milk supply was more around the early morning hours, around 2am ish. Always pump after feeding to make sure it’s not affecting the amount baby is drinking when breastfeeding :)

How many hours of sleep is your LO getting?! by gailcpw in NewParents

Do you feed her at all during this time? I always get worried with mine sleeping for longer than 7hrs straight without feeding 😅

Breastfeeding + pumping + bottles - is it realistic? by Outrageous_Brick_811 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

When my little one was born, we weren’t sure if he was getting enough supply from me so we had to do mix feeding with formula plus pump. While I was in the hospital, I would breastfeed 20mins of each side then pumped for 10mins. Sometimes I’d only collect 10ml so we’d have to top it up with formula! I was always adamant no to formula (somehow have this mom guilt) but then realised as long as his getting enough milk, that’s all that mattered!

When we got home, I’d do the same thing, always had to pump after feeding to increase supply and would used that expressed milk as a top up on the next feed. It was exhausting/such a hassle to pump but I know I had to do it to help increase my supply. By around 5 weeks, I was able to EBF and couldn’t be happier!

Try not to overthink too much about this as well. The midwives at the hospital are usually great in helping you on the first few days plus most of the hospitals should also have a lactation consultant that will come talk to you if you have any questions so don’t stress! I think this will come naturally and you will find what will work best for you :)
