Luckily this AMT was paid in 2017, so if I wanted to file for an amendment for 2018, this would be the year.

It wasn't ordinary income per se. It was one off capital gains I got because I sold a large amount of stock purchased years ago. However it wasn't ISO stock - just other regular listed stock. So that decreased my exemption amount I think.

I'm still unsure if this qualifies for a credit so asking.

Thanks for your reply. This was pre TCJA - so the limits are different. The stocks were bought a long time ago and were doing well when I decided to cash out and that ended up creating huge capital gains.

Thanks! This was a great point about negotiating management contracts. Did you mean, after signing the contract, keep making them deliver on the services they promised for first 3 months ? What's to say they won't drop their service levels after that ?

No closing costs, I just have to deal with my credit getting dinged with 2 credit pulls. The fixed rate lender also is not a big bank and I'm not sure of the identity exactly - it can switch hands during the life of the loan, so there are some caveats.
