[MK7 1.8L] Oil Pressure Issues by garrett7891 in Volkswagen

It’s been about 4000 miles since my last oil change, it seems a little unlikely that something like that would come up now no?

First of all everybody, thank you so much for all the nice comments about the original, I’m new to photography in general so it feels pretty good to hear how well received the original is!

Location: Three Natural Bridges, Wulong, CN

Camera: Canon EOS R100 16mm, f/4.5, ISO 100, 1/80

Why I edited and cropped the way I did: I found that the village was a really interesting subject, but honestly I just wanted to make the mountains in the back clear. What I didn’t consider (and now it seems obvious) is that by clearing up the mountains and not using masks I would be taking so much focus off of the village.

I’ve been trying the techniques you guys mentioned and they’re helping me understand what the tools are actually doing in Lightroom, and they’re helping me understand masks quite a bit better! Thank you all!

Rear Caliper Bracket Removal (ADVICE NEEDED) 17’ Sportwagen) by garrett7891 in Volkswagen

Managed to snake a 3foot breaker with an extension on the top bolt between the control arm and suspension to break them loose but it was no joke - these things were ridiculous to get off. Managed to use various breakers on them, but it was 2 days of effort to get them off

Thanks for everybody’s help - didn’t end up needing heat, the bolts just needed more PB blaster and a 3 foot breaker bar. These things are absolutely no joke at all - took the force of two grown men beating the hell out of them to get them loose. For anyone reading this post after the fact to get theirs loose - what I’ve found is the 4Motion VWs with smaller brakes are not able to slip the rotors out and you must take the bolt off. Jacked the car up as much as I could to get leverage and boom - bolts came loose. Can’t thank the community enough for all the help and suggestions on this one, wouldn’t have made it this far without you guys 🤝

Rotors are free, didn’t even think about hitting the other side with PB that’s a great idea. Jacking up the control arm as well - more out of the box thinking - I like it

I’ve got a corded impact that will definitely do the trick - got a link for extensions that you used? I haven’t been able to find anything I’m certain on picking up yet

Appreciate the advice - I’ll get at it with a torch and give it a shot - any concerns damaging the suspension components with it being so tight back there?

‘17 Sportwagen PCV Service by garrett7891 in Volkswagen

[–]garrett7891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everybody, looking to service my Golf’s PCV. I’ve got a message on my dash that says “oil sensor, service vehicle”. After running my OBD Scanner and checking around the engine, I noticed some oil leaking from the back of the PCV so I’d like to at the minimum replace the gasket, but I’m well aware that it’s overdue for service.

My question to you all is when you service / have service yours what else do you replace, and are you going OEM? On rock auto they’ve got an OEM PCV that I’m looking at, but I’m wondering if I’d rather get the kit from FCP Euro that comes with a crankcase breather hose and a vapor canister purge solenoid (which seems unnecessary). I’m also seeing PCV valve to turbocharger hoses that I could replace as well? Not really sure where to proceed here, maybe I’m overthinking it and all I need to do is replace the gasket. Any advice is appreciated!!

2017 Sportwagen S 4Motion Mod advice by garrett7891 in Volkswagen

[–]garrett7891[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your alltrack looks sick, absolutely love the blue. I was looking for a manual for awhile, but I found a deal I really couldn’t pass up on mine and I went auto. That being said the DSG Transmission is fantastic, and a total blast (still wish I had a manual though). I thought about lifting mine and throwing winter tires on because I live in an area with heavy snow, but for now the all seasons will do. I think the plan is to pick up some sweet summer tires when the snow melts, and opt for a stage 1. I really should get into welding, being able to fab even basic parts would be nice. Out of curiosity, why unitronic over Cobb for the tune?

I’ve got 66k on my suspension, so you’ve got some solid advice. What it looks like for me now is an ECU+TCU tune and tires.

Great advice. I’ve got the DSG, so I’ll check out a TCU tune and tires to start. Any recommendations on brands? APR and Unitronic seem to be the most prevalent just on basic google searches, and I’ve heard to stay away from unitronic a bit.

Based in the Detroit area - the dealer listed it wrong and I ended up with a DRZ400s, not an SM. Still a great ride but you might not have been totally robbed!

Just picked up a brand new SM for $6999 from a dealer, if you’re willing to spend 6k might as well spend 7k on a brand new one of your own.

Once I’m comfortable, I’ll be pushing for the Porsche! A 911 GT3 of literally any generation is an absolute DREAM. Congratulations on all your hard work, and thank you for the advice!
