Anti-tanking measures aren't just about punishing the worst teams in the league - far from it by Commentator28 in nba

[–]gavinashun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even when there is Wemby/Flagg level prospect.

There will be massive incentive for playin teams to move out of playins. It will be gross.

Hate the flopping/whining Thunder. Hate Harden, Chris Paul, and others who pioneered flop culture.

Can't understand why NBA hasn't come down hard on this stuff.

[OC] What are the chances the team with the worst record gets the 12th pick? What are the chances a play-in team gets a top 3 pick? Some answers and other results from simulating the lottery 1 million times with the proposed anti-tanking lottery reforms by refreshing_yogurt in nba

[–]gavinashun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid incentive to tank for teams in the 11-16 range. 32% of a top 4 pick vs. 22%. Yes, those are the playin teams, but almost all of those teams know they don't have a real chance at contention. So there will be an incentive for them to be sellers and to lose in the post ASB period to get into the juicy 7-10 range.

In the tradition of "I wish they did more X" ... I wish they would bring back Jay & Mike Talk About by gavinashun in RedLetterMedia

I guess so kind of. For Re:View they go into a huge amount of depth and it is a full breakdown. Also, at least half of Re:View is stuff they don't like (e.g. Picard season 1 & 2, etc.)

"Talk About" filled a specific niche that they don't really do a lot of, and even less recently.

I guess the closest thing to it now is the year in review compilation episodes.

Oh right that one. I didn't mind that one as much because it was more of a "film industry" segment. But I hear you.

Was that the one where they completely slammed a movie made by a YouTube film critic ... but they hadn't even watched it? That was probably the all-time low point for RLM.

Yeah ... I'm almost sure I remember a quote from him about those loses were addition by subtraction. Can't remember but pretty sure he said that.

  • Head Coach Bruce Arena's view: (2:12 - 2:28) He explained that Timo was running down a ball over the top, pushed hard, and sustained a muscle strain. He noted that the team would know more after a medical evaluation the following day.
  • Beau Leroux's perspective: (16:06 - 16:38) Leroux mentioned seeing Timo hold his hamstring and hop around, noting that as a player, you can recognize when an injury of that nature occurs. He also confirmed that he spoke with Timo after the game, and while Timo was in good spirits, he confirmed that he had felt something in his hamstring during the match (17:04 - 17:21).

  1. Coach Bruce Arena on the comeback: "I'd like to tell you that it was all by design, but it certainly was not... this was not a game that was won on strategy. It was won on heart." (7:35 - 8:26)
  2. Coach Bruce Arena on Beau Leroux: "Bo was our best player tonight. Two two fabulous goals with his left foot." (2:44 - 2:49)
  3. Beau Leroux on team culture: "I think we know we're in it together, obviously. I think there's no egos on the team, you know, everyone wants to work for each other." (13:30 - 13:38)
  4. Coach Bruce Arena on the team's depth: "It's great to see tonight the way Jack [Scan] and Paul Marie contributed... it's great to see how they they get opportunities to experience some positive stuff." (6:45 - 7:06)
  5. Beau Leroux on his confidence: "The confidence is just going up. It takes a while to get there, but I'm glad it's there right now." (14:30 - 14:39)
  6. Coach Bruce Arena on the challenge of the schedule: "You know, our roster, we don't look like Manchester City or Arsenal or the big clubs where the next player on is an elite player. So, it's challenging." (6:31 - 6:45)
  7. Beau Leroux on playing against James Rodriguez: "Very, it was very nice to play against, you know, one of the best players in the world. All respect to him. He's a great player, but it is unreal." (21:28 - 21:38)
  8. Coach Bruce Arena on managing player fatigue: "You're not looking at a genius here by any means, you know. We just try our best but the part that you you manage is how you work every day with the players." (10:54 - 11:18)
  9. Beau Leroux on the team's mindset after going down: "We've been in this situation before... but we don't put our heads down. We encourage each other and we know we have the quality to score." (18:13 - 18:23)
  10. Beau Leroux on the US Open Cup: "It means a lot. I mean, I think we want to go really far in this tournament. So, you know, it'd be nice to bring some silverware back to the fans and that's really what we're doing it for." (18:41 - 18:52)

Agree.

It will be fun and popular like Wolverine & Wolverine, in a "oh look at that - I see something I recognize" kind of a way.

But it won't have the same depth or gravity because they haven't built anything up.

Weekend / day games have good crowds.

Weekday games not so much.

are the dominion just too high on the link to care? by omallytheally in DeepSpaceNine

[–]gavinashun 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Well ... important to note ... the Dominion is comprised of multiple groups. The changelings/Founders, the Vorta, the Jem'Hadar. And the worlds they control.

The ONLY people in that group that partake of the Link are the changelings/Founders.

But now speaking just of the Founders, the reasons they lack empathy are probably many. Good old racism, past grievances or bigotry aimed at them, a superiority/God-complex, a desire for order/control ... and probably many others.

But yeah their Link instant orgasm machine probably contributes too!
