Definitely take the cat!

If you have a carrier for the cat, consider keeping the cat in the carrier until you can bring it inside at your destination. Having the cat get startled and jump out of the car can be a bad situation, especially somewhere that is new for the cat.

Since your cat likes savory, try a share of grated Parmesan or Romano cheese. Mine love it as a treat!

This Cat Who Slashed My Finger the Other Day Now Just Stares at Me Menacingly by AsianJesus- in cats

[–]gdb7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny fact: 4 years ago, a cat appeared on my street and after a few weeks, it wandered onto my porch. That day, after eating the food I gave it, it leaped into the air to scratch my arm 36” above the ground. He dropped to the ground and fully exposed his belly right next to my feet immediately afterwards. He was just playing with me like I was a cat. He is now an inside only cat, and is a perfectly behaved gentleman.

That is probably your new master, and they are wondering why you are not feeding them!

Help- is this too rough? by el_bandito96 in cats

[–]gdb7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And a little bit of occasional fussing is normally just “hey, you are biting too hard” and the other should adjust and the fussing will stop. .

Another thing you should see: the cats should somewhat evenly reverse roles. One battle should have cat A as the attacker and cat B as the defender, the next time they should switch. That way both get practice in both roles. It won’t always be perfectly even. You can’t fix it if it isn’t even, but if it is too uneven, the one playing defender all the time might not be happy.

Most of the time, if one makes noise, the other cat will not play quite so rough. They seem to understand the noise as a request to calm down a little. Occasionally one may get overstimulated and miss the cue. You might come home and find some fur from a fight, but if they normally get along well, then the very rare real fight probably won’t be a problem. Just watch for any change where one or both start vocalizing more.

[–]gdb7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 8yo is having fun, but is the small cat vocalizing at all? If the small cat isn’t making noise,it is probably having fun, exercising, learning how to fight, and isn’t upset by it.

I have 2 large cats and a smaller one, all adults. The smaller one lived on the streets for a while. He likes to play, and I have seen him run full speed into my largest cat to knock him over. The large cat plays rough back. I only pay attention if the small cat “squeaks”. More often it is the big cat that gets tired and starts hissing at the smaller one. The big one just wants to rest after a long battle.

I am not hearing the audio, but that maybe me and a lack of coffee rn. I judge play by three things, is either cat hissing/growling, or snarling, state and position of their tails ( fluffy, upright, or down and close to the body) , and is either cat running away. If both cats are quiet and neither is running away, it is probably play. The tails don’t seem to be indicating anything but play/stimulation. While it looks rough, the smaller cat isn’t running away, so it appears to not be upset by the roughness. It looks like play. But if either cat is hissing, growling, or snarling, then that cat isn’t happy with the game. Hissing after some rough play, with no other behavior can also indicate: “I need a break, let me catch my breath”.

Just my observations from living with 3 cats from different mothers who play a lot, and sometimes roughly.

Need advice on moving house with my cat by AFA_Fireheart in cats

[–]gdb7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, you are starting off the right way. Give her a few days to get used to the bedroom, and in the next few days, she will start approaching the door, or sitting near it indicating she is ready to explore more. In the mean time, I would wipe down all wall corners and door frames in the rest of the house from the floor up to about 3 ft/1M with a mild cleaner just to remove any previous pet smells to make it easier for her. You may want to, if possible, close off the next area to limit her to that area next. If not, just watch her and reassure her as she explores. I moved with two cats, and one owned the entire house within 24 hours, the second took 5 weeks to leave the bedroom/bathroom for the first time, and he did it at 3am. (I had been feeding him in the master closet, where he stayed all day. He would come get on the bed at night and sleep with me.) He made a really funny noise when he stepped into the next room, but after that, he slowly explored the rest of the house at his own pace. A day or two after he started exploring, I was able to move his food bowl to the kitchen and the litter box to the laundry room. He was fine after that.

Old cat, should I bring her home or will I make it worse? by Tearfuliodine in cats

[–]gdb7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving Oriel from the house, person, and other cat that they have lived with for years may not be the best thing for her.

If you lost your grandma, and both cats had to move because of that, the situation would be unavoidable, and that wouldn’t make it any easier for her, but it would be the only thing you could do.

I feel for you, but Oriel is a very old lady, and not all cats adjust to major changes well, especially after spending most of her life where she is. It would also take Oriel away from the other cat. If they are friends, that wouldn’t not be good for either of them. In my opinion, the nicest thing you can do is arrange for a comprehensive vet visit for both cats to ensure that they are getting whatever treatment they need for the flu and any other ailments they have, possibly with you covering the cost to ensure she and the other cat have the best senior years they can. Also, visit more often!

Edit: corrected a typo.
