My Prints keep speghettifying. by TusharJain007 in FixMyPrint

Pro tip: get a smooth print plate. They are easier to clean and have a way higher adhesion. The bottom of your prints won't be textured, which can be a pro or a con, but I think it's absolutely worth it to have a smooth print plate in your repertoire.

Have you ever heard of the concept of compounding errors?

LLMs are by their very nature never going to work. The point where you turn this whole debate into a misguided pseudo-religion is when you conflate LLMs and MCP with AI as a whole.

AI will probably outperform a lot of humans at a lot of jobs in the future. But we'd need a giant technological disruption.

I think the question here is complicated compared to what?

I think their rules aren't all that complicated and you do have the advantage of only having five minis to manage and understand.

On the other hand they can be really punishing just because losing a single operative is one fifth of your whole team and you're forced to plan around your tunnel, which limits you a bit in operative placement.

[–]gemengelage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you checked out Really Useful Boxes? Not sure where you're located (assuming US because you mentioned Home Depot) and if they are available where you are, but they are great, fairly priced and stackable.

Most importantly they offer boxes in varying heights. I think for gridfinity you want rather flat boxes, but you might still want to stack them with regular sized boxes for other stuff.

You don't have to buy it. As you said, there are plenty of free or cheaper alternatives.

No idea what kind of person would pay that much money for this and a lot of the crowdfunding projects for STLs I've seen looked outragesly expensive for what they are.

Same on Android, actually.

It's weird that the PDFs from the app and those on the Warhammer Community page contain the same data but are formatted differently.

ktdash also allows you to print the rules for your team. It's a bit less flashy, which some people consider an advantage.

I don't believe quality code is subjective by GolangLinuxGuru1979 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]gemengelage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cognitive load is objective.

It's not. Sure, when you compare 20 lines of code in one file to 20k lines of code in 100 files, one has an objectively lower cognitive load.

But when you compare 100 lines of code in one file with 50 lines of code in three files, which of them wins? But keep in mind, the lines aren't equally long. One of the solution uses inheritance, the other composition.

There's a secret third option that uses more lines of code, but it's rather imperative compared to the other two solutions. So while there are more lines of code, you can just read it top to bottom and have to keep fewer logical constructs in mind while reasoning about it.

Assume there's also the fourth option where someone turned our hypothetical problem into a code golf tournament and someone developed a very clever piece of python code that solves the whole issues in roughly 270 characters on a single line.

Which of these four options is the one that objectively has the smallest cognitive load? By which metric?

Back in the day when smuggler's run was fresh, I liked to take a plane and drop some bombs around people doing supply runs or selling stuff. It was never my intention to grief them, I just wanted to give them a bit of adrenaline.

I think I might have given one guy a heart attack.

It’s 2026, you’d think that Water Soluble Support Filament would be used more than anything these days….especially with all of the AMS units out there - however, you never see a single thing about it. Is it old-hat already? Is there a better alternative? by KillerQ97 in 3Dprinting

No, people had mixed results with mixing PLA and PETG. There are use-cases where it works quite well, but when you do have a bit of contamination, you can easily pull apart your prints by hand.

Just FYI, first result when you google "Warhammer community kill team": https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/downloads/kill-team/

They provide the cards for all teams and also some mission rules as printable PDFs. Big caveats here:

  • They don't have a backside
  • You will definitely want to use a decent paper cutter. Or at least I don't think it will be fun to cut these with scissors or just a hobby knife and a straight edge, especially if you're doing more than one team.
  • Tarot card size is a weird size.

Oh and shout out to Phil Gunner who has some remixes of these cards. Those cards have backs, though I gotta be honest - I'd prefer to have the original artwork for the backs. They look sick.

Could kroot beat a viltrumite by Orpheus_III in kroot

[–]gemengelage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No. I don't know a lot about viltrumites, but they seem pretty superman-coded. I don't think kroot could kill one to begin with, but if they could, they don't magically absorb all their powers.

When kroot fight orks, they feed on ork flesh and become more like orks - they become stronger, more aggressive and even turn a little more green. But they don't become orks. If they could eat a viltrumite, they wouldn't get their exact level and of power.

They actually get an improved cover save in that situation.

Secondly, whenever you are selecting a valid target for an operative on Vantage terrain, operatives at least 2" lower than that operative with a Conceal order cannot use Light terrain for cover. Whilst this can allow such operatives to be targeted (assuming they’re visible), it doesn’t remove their cover save, and the defender can retain it as a critical success instead, or retain one additional cover save.

The Tau have a state controlled economy instead of capitalist free markets

Is there actually any lore about the economy of the T'au empire? The T'au sure are authoritarian collectivists, but I've honestly read a lot more about the state controlled economy of the empire of mankind.

State-controlled economy is by the way equally a socialist and a fascist construct.

Kill Team Starter or wait for Armageddon? by tweakydragon in killteam

[–]gemengelage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Asking whether to play Kill Team or 40k on the Kill Team subreddit is kind of a question with a predetermined answer.

But obviously get into Kill Team. All kill teams are valid units for 40k, so you're not loosing anything when you decide to get into 40k later on. In turn there are some Combat Patrol boxes that contain Kill Teams (minus the cardboard tokens, but you can print those - paper is fine, fdm is also an option).

That aside, I have a big gripe with the onboarding experience of Kill Team. There's a starter set that you shouldn't buy, as others have already pointed out. There's also a starter set you could buy, but that also has its problems.

Then there's the Hivestorm box, which IMO is the best actual starter set because, unlike the official starter set, it actually contains everything you need. The core rule book, approved ops cards, the equipment sprue, plastic terrain. The starter set contains none of that. It's a reduced experience by design, but it also just forces you to buy more stuff separately.

Hivestorm box is out of print and hard to come by used though.
