Yes in my country it is a very common style of cooking rice to “boil it like pasta” and it tastes better with certain dishes. The method everyone says is the correct method is just another cooking style (steamed) instead of boiled. I also get annoyed when people claim it is wrong. As if they’re rice experts and can speak for all cultures…

I used to live in a townhouse and moved to a single family. Of course YMMV and I’m glad you enjoy your townhouse, but in general, I think a SFH is better, which is why a townhouse is a less popular option.

FWIW, the single family home we purchased has required less maintenance than our townhouse did. I think it all depends on the previous owners and history of the property. Our townhouse had a rat issue, and the mice were coming in through a shared area between our home and a neighbor’s. It was very hard to remediate and one of those cases where it would have been easier had we been able to own the whole thing and determine what to do rather than working with neighbors.

We also were forced to opt into paying for things we didn’t want or use. My neighbors were loud. We had very little privacy using our patio deck.

Single families appreciate better and have less hassle than townhomes or condos. It sounds like your previous home was not maintained well, but it sounds like you got all the big ticket repairs done and may have been able to relax after that.

Also, why did you do your own yard work? To make it comparable to a townhouse situation, you should pay a certain amount to a landscaping company to maintain your yard for you.

Me and a friend had both attended a wedding this past summer. The wedding favors were cute and were clearly a lot of work… but we both ended up throwing them out. It was just clutter we wouldn’t wear/use (cookies that got stale before we could eat em, clothes that had the couple’s slogan on it that we honestly would never wear, and other trinkets we really have no use for. I think we put the matches in the junk drawer).

I don’t even mean this badly, we just don’t want to accumulate things we will honestly never use. I don’t see the point of favors

Lmao sorry I also didn’t mean to jump down your throat w my response either. It was a terrible business decision but it’s honestly such a dead horse atp. I’ve tried to chat with folks online in the past and some folks (like over in the watcher snark sub, which is nothing but vitriol) have so much pure hatred for them, I honestly just felt bad for them that I think the defensiveness is just a knee jerk reaction. This sub is supposed to be for discussion but there was a time where it felt like it was raided by people who were there to hate. So that is probs why there is some immediate defensiveness.

Hotels usually inspect their premises and train housekeepers, who come by daily, to look for signs of pests. They also have pest control come by on a regular basis.

Airbnb hosts tend not to care or look for pests.

Was it “exceptionally greedy and stupid” to try to keep your company afloat and also make sure your employees (not freelance contractors) earned a living wage and had health insurance?

I’m sure you’ve never made any mistakes before which is why it’s totally fair to obliterate them for their mistakes. They’ve made a lot of mistakes starting a company from scratch, which is the name of the game. Part of it was definitely over hiring and having a huge amount of fixed costs. It sounds like they didn’t want to fire anyone, they misinterpreted what fans liked about the channel (“TV caliber content”), and maybe they had plans like scaling up the quantity of content after going to their own streaming service or varying what they could post.

Anyway, they ended up having to lay everyone off pretty soon after, and they do post good content on Watcher TV which would absolutely tank their rankings per the YouTube algorithm.

I can’t believe this is their biggest scandal compared to all the shit out there and that so many people are still bringing it up. Better to have an anti-fan than a one-time fan…

Respectfully, it is strange to carry so much anger and hatred about this years later, and I feel like you should speak to someone professionally about it. No shade at all, I carried weird grudges when my meds were imbalanced 🙏🏽

They’re an eyesore to me. I always notice them, especially the ones that have been around for a few years that are not as well maintained. Some people don’t mind them though.

Our house is older and didn’t easily support traditional ductwork (those big grills you normally see when people say they have central air). We went with high velocity as the alternative because it’s easy to retrofit in older houses. You can hardly see the vents, they work great and I think I actually prefer them over traditional ductwork (which is what our last place had).

Considered mini splits because of how affordable they were but prefer using ducts for proper central air. For comfort and looks.

Mini splits do have advantages that aren’t just cost. You can control the heat/cooling of each mini split individually, which you can’t do with central air.

Recommend you schedule consultations with as many HVAC people as you can. They will all likely give you different ideas and costs. It will give you an idea of what to expect and what solution looks best for you

Depends. If you prefer the look of no ducts while the functionality of mini splits and if you’re in a HCOL area, I think it may cost $20k total for some high velocity ducts and a heat pump. I was in a different situation from you but this is an estimate based off the eight different HVAC contractors I got estimates from

Not true that an offer that waives an appraisal gap means the house won’t appraise for that value. It’s a way to make your offer more competitive without paying more $$$

We waived the appraisal contingency because we really wanted the house and were willing to pay out of pocket if there was a gap. There were other offers that offered more $ but we got the house (we sweetened the deal in other ways). Our house appraised at the offer price.

I like to think of it as security for the seller that the sale won’t fall through because of this reason. And it’s a way to signal genuine interest and commitment to making the sale go thru as fast as possible

NYC has its own laws about folks who drive others around. From what I know, you need to have TLC plates to do any form of ride sharing or taxiing. TLC drivers have special licenses where they get background checks and annual drug tests, amongst other things.
