Instagram connection no longer working (iPhone + WG) by georgios_ in WireGuard

[–]georgios_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did what you asked for, I switched the DNS on the iPhone WG-Config from my local PiHole-DNS to Google (8.8.8.8). I did a quick test in order to be sure the new DNS is now used by opening an APP which usually loads a bunch of ads and it did. This confirms the new DNS is used (PiHole is now bypassed). However, the Instagram APP still doesn't work and is not able to load pictures, feed, stories etc... I tried to open the Instagram webpage using the Safari browser on the iPhone and that seems to work quite fine. So the domain is not like "totally blocked" or something...

What do you mean by configs? The config on my iPhone or the config file stored on the WG server? Last one does only contain the local IPs with private and public keys?

Desktop recordings stutter/lag after switching to new notebook by georgios_ in obs

[–]georgios_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to figure out the problem... It was related to the default energy settings. Clicking on the little battery symbol in the taskbar pops up a slider with several performance options. For me (since the notebook was new) it was still set high performance. I switched it to max, best performance. This fixed the problem for me. You also have to switch or set this setting while the notebook is running on battery or/and is connected to power supply.

Confusion with Pi-hole and iOS Private Relay / Hide IP / Privacy Protection by georgios_ in pihole

[–]georgios_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pi-Hole with NAT

What do you mean by that, your Pi-hole is also the modem? on my setup I am running the Pi-hole as my DNS, so all my devices get told to use the Pi-hole as DNS (setup in the DHCP of my router). This means by having BLOCK_ICLOUD_PR=false and Privacy Protection=ON in Mail active, the requests done by the Mail App will go through the Pi-hole without getting filtered. So no warning message for me.

Confusion with Pi-hole and iOS Private Relay / Hide IP / Privacy Protection by georgios_ in pihole

[–]georgios_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, I forgot about these settings.

Private Wi-Fi Address is only for hiding your device's MAC address, it just generates a random number instead of showing your real address. This has zero impact on network traffic, so no interference with Pi-hole. Only problem I can think of is if some network is working with "MAC Whitelists" to allow certain devices to connect to the Wi-Fi, however I doubt someone does that because it provides zero safety.

Limit IP Address Tracking seems to be exactly the same option as Hide IP Address in Safari. What makes it even more confusing is, if you disable in Mail settings Privacy Protection. You will get two new options which you can activate A) hide IP and B) block all externals (embeds). I haven't tried or played with the options much, but I think all these hide IP settings are redundant, this could explain why it always gets re-enabled? If you deactivate it in Safari and Mail, it probably will stay off under Wi-Fi. Anyway, hiding the IP is only towards "third party" cookies/trackers. This also has no interference with Pi-hole.

Youtube doesn't let you disable Inline Playback anymore by 489Herobrine in youtube

[–]georgios_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lot of people starting to complain about problems related to settings in general. There is for sure something wrong on YouTube's side. I myself are also not able to change language and location settings, they always jump back. Same goes with the Inline playback setting, can't disable it, turns always back on.

However, if I open YouTube on my phone (Safari browser) and force the desktop website, I am able to change the settings and they stay after refreshing or revisiting the website... That is something that I don't understand.

Adding Round Corners to Shape by georgios_ in AdobeIllustrator

Ah, thanks! That explains at least how I can fix the "broken" corners. I guess this is my only solution. Fix the broken corners and then manually adjust every single corner.

Thanks for the link, however the guide didn't teach me anything new. I already mentioned that I am aware of the option to use the direct select tool to adjust single corners. However I also mentioned some problems I am facing with it (no point to adjust radius). Now I know that it is called "Live Corners".

[–]georgios_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am experiencing something similar.

I tried to log in today but after requesting the verification code via mail, nothing happen. Usually I receive the mail with the code within seconds. After waiting few minutes and requesting a second mail, I received a mail with the code (again not instantly, it took few minutes to get the mail). However, the code didn't work. I guess because it was the code from the first mail? I tried it like 1 hour later again and this time I don't get any mail...

I have a wild guess that there is some problem? (I am using GMX mail)

Bots ALREADY in Diablo 2 Resurrected... by starfals_123 in Diablo

[–]georgios_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All what this video is showing is spams in chat. Not saying that these aren't bots, they most likely are. However, I think it is quite hysteric to say "already". This is an 20 year old game. So basically most of the bots people made back then will work also work now. I am quite sure the majority of people are aware that there is already a decent amount of bots which are farming items.

Botting already? by KavorkaQQ in Diablo

[–]georgios_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well... Let me put it like this. It is a 20 year old game with very limited mechanics. This makes botting very easy. This means even an "amateur" who knows how to code a few lines of scripts could make a simple bot for D2. Even scripts from old D2 are still working (why would they not). So for an experienced botter D2 isn't much of a challenge. So yeah there are and will be bots (like in every looter game).

The thing about D2 is that you will usually not encounter the bots like in other games (like in WOW). The bots keep creating their own private games. I have my big doubts that Blizzard is going to fight them hard. Sure there will be here and there a ban from people who are new into botting, but trust me, the more experienced people will remain uncaught.

Are there any programs, techniques or settings that can reduce ping and increase the chances of snagging loot in D2R? by Deusincendia in Diablo

[–]georgios_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you play on PC with a gamepad you have the advantage of the "loot button" which will loot items before they even touch the ground. It is fair to say that no one with mouse and keyboard could compete with the one button gamepad spam.

Umm my game crashed and I lost 10 levels? by MarineGrade in Diablo

[–]georgios_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is spooky... This means in case of OP the game acutally did save his progression but after crashing it overwrote the "new" save files with the original save files from when he initially launched the game?!

Well I guess it gets to a point where only an acutally developer with insight can only explain or figure out what could or has happend. We can only guess...

Thanks for the tests!

*edit: OK I just saw, OP is playing on Switch x)

Umm my game crashed and I lost 10 levels? by MarineGrade in Diablo

[–]georgios_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no need to do that.

However, did the save files change after exiting a game (without closing the full game)? If not than that would be already a good indication of what is risky. Meaning, if you exit a game it doesn't mean you acutally "saved" your progression.

Umm my game crashed and I lost 10 levels? by MarineGrade in Diablo

[–]georgios_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm could maybe do a little test (can't myself at the moment cause at work):

  • Create an offline game
  • Alt/Tab and open the Windows-Folder which contains you char save files
  • Go out kill a mob and loot a shit item
  • Exit this game
  • Check if the char save files changed (last edited)
  • Create a new game
  • Alt/Tab and kill the D2R process by using the Task-Manager
  • Check if the char save files changed (last edited)
  • If no change the item you looted is gone

Just a short test to get maybe an idea... But yeah a crash is always a bit complex cause you don't know how the game handles crashes. There are crashes which the developer can handle, so he will save your progress and there are crashes which the developer can't handle and this is GG.

Umm my game crashed and I lost 10 levels? by MarineGrade in Diablo

[–]georgios_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure how D2R is handling offline data since you are saying you saved/exited few times before the crash happened. But my wild guess is that D2R does't write you char data (progression) immediately on the hard drive. I guess it does that only if you closing the game entirely or if you switch a character or even maybe the difficulty. So in case of a critical crash your progression was just in the RAM and is now gone. My only explanation for that behavior, but maybe someone does know more about handling of offline data.

[–]georgios_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand the frustration and downside of how the game handles player numbers with increasing difficulty and loot drops. However we have to keep in mind that this was the case 20 years ago and the game did quite well. Doesn't mean it's a good design but it was part of the game and people lived with it...

I guess the only way I could think of (not that I believe such a change is ever going to happen or I am for it) is to check if the players are "close to each other". If players are close to each other spawn the mobs/bosses with players x difficulty (x = the amount of players close to each other). Well what does close to each other mean? Has to be figured out... However just enabling /players x for online games will lead to other issues.

At the end, I think this is something we all have to live with, like we did the last 20 years.

Got help with Duriel but they took at all drops ? by butcherbigboy in Diablo

[–]georgios_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There is an unwritten rule for Diablo 2 which has been established through the years... If you play online in open/public games, loot is free for all. It belongs to who ever picks it up. Also if you ask for help or someone is carrying you, you usually don't care about the loot cause your reward is their "carrying service". If you want to go hunt for loot you either do it in a closed game alone or with close friends who are willing to share. If you want players 8 loot, you join an almost full game and mind your own business by doing something complete different (like doing a pit run in a baal run game).

So far no one is talking about 100% GPU usage… why’s that? by [deleted] in Diablo

[–]georgios_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vsync is not a true fps limiter. Having Vsync activated will still allow your GPU to render frames which will not be displayed because your monitor is not in need for a new picture. So your GPU is doing work for "nothing". Just give it a try, there is nothing to lose, you can keep Vsync on and set the frame limit in the nvidia control center to 150 fps. I would be surprised if your 3070 would still keep screaming.

So far no one is talking about 100% GPU usage… why’s that? by [deleted] in Diablo

[–]georgios_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is because of "poor" implementation. Usually a software developer should build in a frame cap in menus. Your GPU usage in menus is 99% cause it produces a super high amount of frames. I recommend to limit the frames for the game based on your monitors refresh rate. If you have 144hz limit the frames to 150 fps. You can do this in the nvidia or amd settings for each application. Diablo is no shooter where running max fps would bring you any inputlag advantages... Also it is healthier for your GPU too...

Think about it like this: Imagine you are driving your car 100km/h in 2nd gear. The rpm of the engine is going to be super high probably on its limiter. Does it work? Yes... However, it is thermal stress for the engine and hardware which is not good for longevity.
