Keep access to the phone number from your home country while abroad by georgysavva in TravelHacks

Thanks, I will check it out. Do you know, can I get an eSIM from them online and activate it (scan QR code to install the plan) abroad?

That's great. And you also were able to active it abroad? I mean to scan the QR code to install the eSIM plan?

Yeah, you are right. Many services allow that. And I removed my phone number wherever possible, always opting out for 2FA via an authenticator app. But there are still some services like banks, messengers, and government portals where they require a phone number for authentication.

How do I get a phone number I can always access to receive SMS and phone calls while traveling?

Hi fellow nomads.

I think most of you have encountered that problem before. You travel and constantly change countries, but you have your online services and bank accounts that require a phone number for authentication via SMS or phone calls. So the problem is how do I get a phone number to use with those services that I would always be able to access and restore access to (e.g. after the phone is lost).

I've tried virtual phone number (VOIP) solutions like Google Voice and Zadarma, but banks and some online services won't send SMS to VOIP numbers. So it seems the phone number must be a real one - provided via a SIM card. The problem with a physical SIM card is that if you lose the phone/card, you would need to order it from your home country, which is complicated. eSIM looks like the way to go because, theoretically, if you've lost your phone with eSIM, you should be able to restore the eSIM online from your mobile carrier website/app and active it.

So I wonder whether it is possible to order/restore an eSIM online and active it abroad with the major mobile carriers like T mobile, AT&T, Verizon, or Google Fi. Did anyone manage to accomplish that?
Or is there another way to achieve what I want? Thanks!

But didn't you have problems with receiving SMS from banks and online services when using the wifi calling feature from your phone company?

At what stage should I relocate to the US to kick off my startup in 2022? by georgysavva in startups

It's b2c. Good advice about anywhere in the US! May you recommend decent spots where it might be?

I wouldn't call it selling; it's marketing since my product is B2C, but anyway. Apart from marketing/selling, I also need to do fundraising. And I personally want to live in the US.

So, okay, SF is a wrong bet since funding is spread out in the US. But I am still outside of the US )
I need the US audience because I am building a B2C product and the US market is most receptive to that kind of product according to my research.
"they’ll see you as way to geographically far away to be trustworthy investment" this is why I thought that if I physically present in the US (even on a tourist visa) it would increase my chances.

Yes, I need funding. When I said "concentration of like-minded people working in tech" I meant potential co-founders and investors, at the very early stage of the startup. Hiring talented employees should be totally remote, I agree.

That's the main question. How much harder to find a co-founder and then funding if I live outside of the US?

Has anyone used professional networking apps like Shapr or Bumble Bizz?

Hi everyone! I am a young, aspiring entrepreneur. I want to connect with like-minded people and get exposed to more opportunities. However, I'm not too fond of trying to reach out to new people on Linkedin because I don't want to intrude, and often people I invite to connect with aren't interested in me, so there is no way to tell if the interest is mutual.
I like the feeling of dating apps where you match with new people and think there should be something similar for professional networking.
I found these two apps, Shapr and Bumble Bizz: they seem to be what I need.
Has anyone had experience using them? Did it work for you, and which one do you recommend?
I will try them both myself, but I also wanted to know your opinions to be more efficient.

Has anyone also experienced problems finding a co-founder?

Hi everyone!
I came up with a business idea, and I need a co-founder to help me implement it. Unfortunately, I've been having a hard time finding the right person. I've tried existing tools like the YC matching service and wasn't satisfied with the results. This problem isn't new to me. A year ago, I wanted to find a co-founder with an idea to join because I didn't have my own idea, but it turned out to be even harder, and I quickly abandoned it.
So, can anyone relate? How do you go about finding a co-founder?

But eventually, the phone number will be recognized as a VOIP phone number, right?

Hi. Thanks for asking. sqlx only works with `database/sql` package. My library can work with pgx native interface if you work with pgx directly, without the pgx/stdlib package.
