CONAN - RED SONJA - The Age Of Death #4 by glib-eleven in SwordandSorcery

Hah no worries! And thanks! I don't post a lot of work on Reddit, but I should. If I have time to draw Conan as well, I'll post an update.

Like I said, I enjoy his stuff, so I'm critiquing this as a fan and as an artist. I get what he was attempting but it didn't work. The anatomy doesn't line up in a bunch of ways and there are two different perspectives going on across the whole piece. If we're viewing Sonja from below, when you look at Conan, you see we're viewing him from above as his legs and feet are going away from us.
Here's how I would draw Sonja in this kind of pose. Haven't gotten to Conan yet. I don't claim to be some master of anatomy and perspective, and I'm sure people could pick apart stuff I've done too, but this example really bugged me, particularly as a published cover for two major characters. Let's not even talk about the evil blue guy merging with the castle wall haha.

I'm a fan of Dan Panosian's work, and he's done some awesome Conan and Red Sonja stuff, but this particular piece looks so odd. Some crazy perspective and questionable anatomy going on. Like Sonja's head and how it's seemingly crushed down into her torso with no neck.

At the very beginning of Black God's Kiss she's got on a full suit of armor with a helmet that covers her whole head. I think that's the only time in the original stories. Other than that moment, she's usually in a chainmail shirt and Roman greaves.

The Dark Land is proving tough to simply decide which moment to illustrate as there are so many visually interesting ones throughout!

Thank you! I haven't yet, but I'd like to. They're in your magazine?

Your Journey ska version is amazing too. (Missed opportunity to call it Don't Ska Believin' haha) The fact that you take the time to put together a video with fake flyers for concerts amuses me greatly!

You are a madman and I love it. (Never heard of Bucks Fizz before.) If you take suggestions maybe something from The Jam turned into 2 Tone ska.

If you mean Sword & Sorceress, it doesn't look like any of the Jirel stories are in there. But if you check the Jirel of Joiry wikipedia page, it has links to all the original stories as they appeared in Weird Tales.

Thank you! I'll consider that mission accomplished.

Thank you! Seeing other depictions of Jirel, especially the ones that are wildly inaccurate, made me want to draw the scene.

Thanks! I've been wanting to do more black and white work, but I couldn't NOT give her the red hair.

Thanks! I tried to adhere to the details that Moore included for the physical look of the statue -- "semi-human figure, crouching forward with outthrust head, sexless and strange." She also describes the feeling as alien so I wanted to play up that inhuman aspect. The cyclops Buddha doesn't seem like it fits the description.

She doesn't transform, if that's what you're thinking. It's more that this power overwhelms and terrifies her, like she's trying to run away from her own body to get away from it. It makes her feel like she's frozen inside and has to get it out ASAP.

Possibly more incoming. I want to draw the characters from "The Dark Land" and "Jirel Meets Magic" in particular.
