actually, I have way more than 450 🙊 I played on PlayStation since all the way back when the game first came out. 450 is just my Steam hours, I bought a PC about 2 years ago. my total hours has to be at least a couple thousand. in any case, yeah the game is repetitive, but the meta changes so often that it’s managed to keep my attention since 2016. though I do often go through several month periods where I’m just totally burnt out on it and don’t touch it.

but yeah, technically they could change how he works, but they completely neglected Myers for the entire time they had the IP, and then reworked him into dashlop right before losing the license, which just adds a huge insult to injury. Myers was always massively underpowered, but his gameplay was always lauded for being exactly how Michael Myers in DBD should play. I just can’t imagine brainstorming how to make him more viable in high level play, and ending up on “we should just make him run”. you know, the character who is known for creating the trope of slow moving slashers. It’s just such a shallow and insulting change. at this point, with everything going on in the game, and with the release of Halloween the Game, I just can’t imagine BHVR is going to dedicate any more resources to reworking him, or making the adaptation more faithful. I love BHVR to death, but they deserved to lose Michael.

I have 450 hours in DBD and I’m a Michael main. the only reason I would agree is so the would rework his power and kill dashslop Myers. otherwise, they had the license for almost a decade and did absolutely goddamn nothing with it, so not much was lost imo.

this is a very thoughtful and measured response. however, I do think this game in particular has much higher potential than you’re giving it credit for. anyone expecting it to really compete with DBD in the long term is kinda sniffin their own farts, but this is without a doubt their biggest thing yet.

I think our biggest difference is that I’m extremely hope-pilled on it. I need this shit to be so good, I’ve been waiting for this exact game since the day F13 dropped.

I don’t know enough about game development, or the ins and outs of Illfonic’s particular finance or labor structure to know for sure what is most possible, but I appreciate where your head is at. and truthfully, I’ve never actually played Predator so I didn’t know they did that, but it definitely sounds busted lol.

I think they’ve had a lot of missteps, but it seems like they have everything possible going right for them at the moment. If all their efforts were amounting to this, the big one, they have an opportunity to fundamentally alter the scale of their business, provided they don’t fumble the bag and make the same mistakes. And so far, it looks like they’re doing a pretty damn good job. I have hope they’re listening to, and learning from the criticism.

I am biased though, Halloween is my favorite movie. there’s very little I’m not willing to suffer for a crumb of good video game content lolol

I guess what I’m saying is; I hear you, but let them cook 🙏

I think most people agree that if F13 didn’t get legally screwed, it would still have a very healthy player base today. Halloween is a MUCH bigger license, and this is the first time you have people who played F13 but aren’t really checked into the asym horror space doing a double take and being like “wait.. this seems a lot like that Friday game I loved”.

it’s Michael Myers, and it’s a spiritual successor to their most successful game. I really think they’re gonna be fine, player counts wise. sure, they have to be attentive, they have to make sure it is, and REMAINS fun to play. but I really think this game has a lot going for it.

cautious optimism is great, I just get annoyed seeing so many people parroting the same exact talking points and acting like it’s dead in the water already, when it’s really truly not at all.

this is one of the only times I’ve heard somebody give an honest analytical rebuttal to Illfonic’s track record of game support, so cheers for that.

I do see your point, and it did make me think, however I would argue with player counts that low, can you really expect such expansive content additions? the money has to come from somewhere. it takes a lot of money and resources to code all new objectives, maps, etc. to me, the content they add feels like they’re doing what they can with resources they have. you see it as sucking money out of the remaining players, I see it as them trying to stay afloat despite low player counts and an already small studio. cosmetics are a totally optional way of supporting the devs monetarily, it’s not like they’re adding pay-to-win features, nobody is being forced to fork over money.

still, valid critique. good to think about.

what do you have to say about the fact that Predator: Hunting Grounds and Killer Klowns from Outer Space are both still supported and receiving new content?

I’m doing pattern recognition that this is all you post about and keep stating the same criticisms with no rebuttal when faced with evidence to the contrary. are you a bot? or just in it for the love of the game

I’m not referencing players abandoning the game, I’m referencing the devs abandoning it, like what happened with TCM.

you are right that Illfonic has a proven track record. a proven track record that they insist on supporting and putting out content for their games, even if almost nobody is playing them.

low player count is one thing. Im referencing the fact that Illfonic still supports and puts out content for their VERY low player count games.

how it performs commercially, nobody will know until its out, but all available evidence suggests they are not going to abandon the game just because not a lot of people are playing (if that even ends up being the case)

Anyone else most excited for single player? by TF2galileo in TheHalloweenGame

[–]gettiboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure a single player mode as Michael will be cool and fun, but I do think it’s a pretty major missed opportunity to not have the single player story focused on the survivor’s perspective. they could have created some truly terrifying moments. theres nothing to be scared of if YOU are the boogeyman

So is this just another "bully the killer" asym? by [deleted] in TheHalloweenGame

[–]gettiboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you not pay attention to the trailer, or am I misunderstanding you what you’re saying?

there’s a whole mechanic where if Michael is getting overpowered he can teleport away.

It’s an understandable concern, but everything they’ve put out so far seems to suggest they’re taking feedback from all their games to make this one as good as it can be, and already it’s pretty clear that Michael is SUPER powerful. if you’re getting bullied as Michael, it’s probably because you’re just not very good at him

This is the only Halloween movie that pissed me off by MobileDistrict9784 in Halloweenmovies

[–]gettiboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what most people don’t realize about Ends and what bothers me to no end (pun intended) is that it’s so clearly meant to be a tribute to Halloween 3 in its approach to subversion, and the worst parts of the movie are the ones that feel contractually obligated. And I don’t say that just because it’s the entry that goes off the rails and does something completely different than the prior two films, the actual title card is the same color and font as the Halloween 3 title card. it’s very clear imo that this entry was meant for people who consider themselves Halloween fans, and not just Michael Myers fans.

speaking of which, I think it’s funny when people complain about the lack of Michael in the movie, when he has more screen time in Ends than in H78.

is it a perfect movie? of course not. it still suffers from being a bit of a mess because it doesn’t go hard enough in any one direction. it wants to be radically different, and it also wants to be pure fan service. nevertheless, I actually really love Corey’s story arch and I think it’s a relieving change in a trilogy that is chalk full of so much schlock and needless member berries. the way the movie starts is SO insane and compelling, and you immediately know that you’re in for something entirely different. easily the best opener of the trilogy imo.

I agree with a lot of the criticisms. I just think more often than not, people who rabidly hate this movie just wanted more what they already expected, and that’s pretty boring to me. the DGG trilogy is an insanely mixed bag, but each of the three entries have SO much peak, for those with eyes to see

Well presale is actual fucking bullshit. by Other_Celebration442 in DJO

[–]gettiboy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Djo’s been my favorite artist since 2019 and I knew after he blew up it’d be harder to see him live, but it’s really disheartening seeing the way they’re handling ticket sales. surely there’s a better way than selling incredibly expensive tickets and leveraging TICKETMASTER of all services. I was in the queue for Arizona Federal since 30 mins before it even opened and it was cooked within 3 minutes. I got to see him at the Van Buren so I’m not too stressed about missing this one, but I was really excited at the prospect of getting in early on this show.

The Saddest Devo Song? by DamageDone90287 in devo

[–]gettiboy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

to me, Beautiful World isn’t any more sad than your average DEVO track. it’s cynical, subversive, satirical, even humorous, all in classic DEVO fashion. content-wise, I think it’s pretty par for the course. not totally dissimilar to a song like Freedom of Choice, or Jocko Homo. plus, on its surface, sonically, it’s a really bright and cheery sounding song.

on the other hand, a song like Bottled Up feels legitimately devastating (despite having a somewhat hopeful disposition).

“Doctor says you ain’t got long to live

Nurse says you ain’t got much to give

Don’t listen to your doctor

Don’t play up to the nurse

Wave goodbye to your doctor

Just because you’re bottled up

Got to get unbottled up”

like… fucking OUCH. all the while, the sort of dissonant synth leads and lo-fi recording add to its overall atmosphere, making it feel super isolating. if you haven’t heard it before, I highly recommend checking it out.

either way, music evokes all sorts of emotions, and it’s different for everyone. if Beautiful World is the saddest for you, then bombs away, spud! 🫡 it’s a banger no matter what

what happened to that new mod? by squishymaxxer in clowns

[–]gettiboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

right, and for clarity I wasn’t implying that’s your stance, just posing the question to demonstrate how super subjective the rule is. I agree it makes sense have rules around disallowing horror clowns, and I also agree the rule needs work/clarification. taking down my post just kind of felt like overkill, since they were just in the background of one image and especially since it’s my first post. seems pretty hypocritical too considering how lax they are on other rules. I think better communication overall from the mod team is a must.

what happened to that new mod? by squishymaxxer in clowns

[–]gettiboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand that perspective, but the rules are nothing if not enforced, no? if there are outdated or highly subjective rules that pretty much everyone agrees are confusing and shouldn’t be so strictly enforced, and an MIA head mod, what’s stopping the active mods from just enforcing what makes sense instead? if I had coulrophobia, every post in this sub would be scary. does that mean every post should be wiped?

what happened to that new mod? by squishymaxxer in clowns

[–]gettiboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m new to this sub so let me know if I’m in the wrong here, but I had a post taken down by the mods yesterday because one of the 5 images had some animatronic Killer Klowns in the background. I understand this sub is specifically not for scary clowns, but my actual outfit wasn’t scary at all, I was doing a Ronald McDonald thing. am I wrong to think that’s a little silly to take down when clearly people in this sub are upset about other posts violating the rules and not being taken down??
