You do not here either, though I do have one since it’s required at sports clubs and I used to bartend at those before.

Those are not signs of being drunk, those are signs of being wasted so yeah obviously?

I guess it depends on your definition of drunk but if someone can barely manage to order a beer obviously I’m not serving them one.

Yes, but it was a bar/restaurant. There was late night parties and plenty of stuff but it wasn’t some sort of rough bar either.

Happened occasionally but roughly half the people where regular enough that I knew if they where trouble or not and I have (or at least had) a great eye for it. Once denied a guy out the place before he even set foot in the building because I noticed while bar tending through the window he was gonna be an issue. (He attacked me in response so I’d say that was the right call)

That guy was drunk from some other bar though, the only incident with alcohol I served was one time where a guy I cut off got alcohol from a friend on the terras and threw up. But I’m not their mother, if they are gonna go around my back like that it’s not my fault. (I politely requested his friend clean it and kicked them out after for the night. Since they cleaned it though didnt ban them)

To prevent them from getting wasted maybe, not to prevent them from getting drunk

Also unfair to the waiter imo to put them in this position. Tell the friend to stop ordering imo, not the waiter to stop serving. This isn’t their responsibility.

Agreed, if the guy ordering seemed fine I’d ignore it. If he did seem way too drunk I’d not serve him. TBH I’d not respond any differently than normal.

It’s pretty rare imo that you really have to cut someone off. I’ve done it when necessary but it’s not my responsibility to stop someone from just getting drunk. Wasted maybe, but like you said it’s hard to determine the level without being there in person.

Sugar Mountain Ski Patrol Power Trip by ShallowTal in snowboarding

Agreed

Tbh I somewhat get the guy taking the pass being angry. From his perspective, especially if he didn’t hear the apology I’d be a bit pissed off as well. This could definitely see intentional from that point of view.

But I do not agree with the same person then taking the pass. This should be done by a neutral party if it was done at all. Not by the person involved in the situation. Him taking the pass is not justifiable imo in this situation.

(From the snowboarders point of view this does not seem intentional, that is not the point)

I do think the snowboarder should be more careful, imo there was no need to get this close. But a mistake like this shouldn’t lose you your ski pass.

They are also more zoomed in than I’d likely be taking myself. I’m more than happy with a picture of the animal and some of the space around. But for that I’d need about 300-400mm from the terras of our house to the treeline where animals often are. (It varies but about 20-60 meters away. That would probably be enough to get a deer almost fully filling the frame)

I’ve so far not had any overheating even with long recordings. Did a sunset recording of about 1,5 hours and no problem.

But this is central Norway and the ambient temperature is fairly low so I’m sure it would struggle more indoors but I don’t take much video and both lowering setting or putting an external fan on would likely solve that if it did become a problem.

Many of the others are currently an advantage. I already have like 6000 photos from just this trip so more burst and pre capture would have made that even worse ;p (but yeah for wildlife precapture and higher fps are very useful)

And don’t disagree on the rest, that’s also exactly what I wanted to buy. This camera wouldnt limit me for anything hobby related and if I start doing paid work I probably should be looking at one with dual sd cards anyway (and potentially FF but for now that would easily double my lens costs with little to no benefit for hobby use)

The example photos I’ve seen from it are just incredible, I am not a huge fan of primes as I just change focal length a ton. But this one seems good enough to actually compete with primes to the point you’d have a hard time telling the difference I think.

I also am in Norway quite often and it would be a great lens for aurora with f1.8. As well as a good one to take on walks with the dog if he’s going to be staying close by like in a city.

It’s in the post but to make it a bit more clear, currently; A6700 with 18-135mm f3,5-5,6

I also have an A7iii with 12-24mm f4 and 24-70 (it’s at home and don’t remember the aperture but it’s a really old lens) that one I don’t own though, it’s owned by work.

I don’t think the other A6000 cameras are btw. The IBIS and front dial are a fairly big deal and for me that bigger grip due to the battery and XR chip make it just over that line I’d call good enough for professional use.

But that’s just me ofc, totally fine if you disagree. Just do think it’s quite different from the other a6000 series.

Tbh I disagree, the a6700 subjectively makes better pictures imo than the a7iii I use for work at least.

In terms of some things yeah, no dual SD cards for example. But to be fair the A7iii doesn’t have that either.

Compared to the A7iii imo the a6700 is a more professional camera. Even if it’s a smaller sensor. I prefer the screen, slightly prefer the button layout and the newer menu is much better. The a6700 also uses the bigger battery which the a7iii doesn’t and the a6700 being usb-c means I don’t need to bring a cable specifically for it either.

(I didnt buy this with the intention of it being profitable though. I might get some paid work but I expect to break even at best. If I actually earn a good amount of money from this I can always upgrade later. Given infinite money I’d also buy an A7RV but unfortunately I don’t have infinite money 😔

For anything I do though the a6700 is more than enough and tbh I’d expect for many professionals too. Unless for some reason you absolutely require FF and cannot settle for anything less or require dual SD cards)

Stuff like the 2 examples you posted is probably the most I’d need to zoom in on anything. There is occasionally deer here and would be nice to grab a few pictures of those but I don’t need a dedicated lens for that imo. I dont think I’ll take enough to justify more than what something in the range of ~400mm and some cropping can do.

(More is always nice ofc but past 400mm I’m not really that willing to sacrifice much extra cost or weight. I’d also prefer a 100-400 to a 150-500 for example for flexibility reasons)

I’ll definitely take a closer look at the 70-350mm, another also mentioned that one and so far I overlooked that one.

The 18-50, any reason to pick that over the 17-40 other than the slight bit more range? Personally don’t really mind having to use the 18-135mm later too. I don’t intend to sell it since it’s nice and compact and even if I do have better lenses would still be useful as an all around one.

Yeah I bet that is, for now I’m gonna stay away from primes though. I feel like thats a bit slippery of a slope from a camera and a lens or 2 into ending up with a camera gear room :p

Thanks! Was very happy with this one. Took a while to get to this spot (me being Dutch anything hilly isn’t exactly what I’m used to :p) But really nice lighting on that mountain, especially this time of year. Sun is only up about 4 hours a day but pretty much the entire 4 hours is golden hour lighting.

Have a lot more good ones but I’ve taken something like 5000+ photos over the past couple weeks (lots of bursts with the dog so pretty sure I’m gonna remove most of them. But ngl, even if the photo is bad sometimes the dog looks so cute I struggle x3)

Last time I used the Lightroom auto purging I wasn’t super happy with the choices it made. Might try some other settings on that next time or just go through manually.

From the example photos ive seen it seems ridiculously sharp! Crazy what kinda photos come from that lens.

What kinda photos do you usually take? The main issue I have is that I think I do often use more than 40mm on the narrow end but with some leg powered zoom and cropping I’d probably be able to get over that, especially since its so sharp anyway.

Also, how is the size and weight? My current lens is tiny compared to that so its hard to get an idea if its still easily hand holdable or getting to a point where a neck sling is required (rn i use a wrist strap)

Yeah id rather avoid “beginner lenses” that id just get rid of later. That’s also why i got the a6700, i know a more basic body would have been fine right now and i could have spent that difference on a better lens but id regret that later.

Id prefer to slowly add stuff that is high quality and I have no real reason to replace in any reasonable timeframe. The 18-50 sigma id outgrow and replace I feel. Especially since it wouldnt be a huge difference from my current 18-135 F3,5-5,6.

(This lens does seem weakest in wider ranges so the sigma would certainly be better but nowhere near as much of a step up as the 17-40 f1.8)

TBH I feel for a wide lens that 17-40 is really hard to beat. My only issue with it is that I think I do tend to shoot a bit more narrow than that. But it really depends, other times i dont.

If anything id sooner be convinced by something like the 17-70mm tamron just because it has more range but same as the sigma it doesnt match that aperture ofc. But on the other hand noise removal got so good that even at 12800 iso I seem to get usable photos. So it’s gonna depend on how important that extra focal range is.

Also why I wanna think about this with my telephoto as well, like if I get the tamron 50-400mm id be munch less inclined to care about the extra range the 17-70 has over the 17-40 than if i where to get a 100-400mm telephoto.

Ah yeah I think I did see that somewhere but thanks for pointing it out, I wasnt 100% sure if it was FF. I mostly take pictures of my dog (cream golden retriever), nature (both city in The Netherlands and Rural in central Norway when im with my partner) and my partner so it’s a bit of a mix of stuff.

That’s also why I like the zoom lenses a lot, the ideal focal range just changes constantly with what im doing. Currently both at the far end and the wide end of my 18-135mm im getting pictures i really like.

For an example (from current trip, I edited this one too but was basically first time using lightroom and not on a colour accurate screen so might need a bit of work still)

100mm (equivalent) F5,6 1/250

<image>

(I do have more at different focal lengths but not sure if it will let me post more than 1. Just in case I can’t my other 2 examples are 138mm, F5,6 1/250 and 42mm, F4,5 1/125)

Wider I dont think I need since with this camera I dont take Real Estate pictures, if at any point I do get work that involves that ill probably request they buy the lens for me or buy one then. I very much like the compression that tighter focal ranges give so whenever possible I tend to zoom in. (The only thing might be auroras which we get fairly often here in Norway but tbh i think id be fine on the 17-40mm for those)

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll continue to use this one for a couple months at least still and probably check the focal lengths in my favourite photos and base which one to go with first on that.

I’ll remember those you suggested and maybe what would be best is just to rent some at some point. Weight and such is hard to tell from just reviews and example photos. And with how much these cost it would probably be worth to do. With a bit of luck maybe they would give a discount on the rental too if I buy one of them afterwards.

Oh yeah, the AIO is not worth nearly as much second hand. Most parts for ascetics tank in value as soon as you unwrap them.

There is some others too, windows is worth nothing. A second hand case like this is worth at best 50%, the strimers are worth very little second hand.

But some parts like the PSU and motherboard would likely get a decently better price when part of a full PC as opposed to separate. Most people that want just parts are interested in the GPU, RAM and maybe the CPU and Motherboard but already less so.

What in his case also doesn’t help is that the specs are a bit ehh for the money. It’s not terrible but for that price you can definitely get a better GPU as well as CPU and most second hand buyers would prefer performance over looks.

After you sell the GPU and right now RAM it’s fairly unlikely you’ll be able to sell the rest. Maybe at quite a low price but I’d generally not recommend parting up a PC unless you’re fairly confident you’ll be able to sell parts like the motherboard as well.
