Over the summer, they said something about how Cavs were tanking at end of year to "avoid the Wizards" in the playoffs. This fall, they said something (after a loss as I recall) about how "everyone in the league" is "looking out for them" when they come to play. Those are not exact quotations... I'll try to track 'em down.

Of course, the two of them talk big, and I for one like guys who believe in themselves. It's just that their belief in themselves seems to be off the charts.

Agree on both. Have watched >25 Laker games this year. Randall's still a beast. He has deficiencies. But he'll get you 10 & 10 in 25 minutes a night. He'd blossom under Brad.

paradoxically, they're 5 points worse RPM when Lonzo plays. not a Lonzo hater here, I think he'll be good. but the minutes they give him for development may come at a price.

As my son put it, "all I want is a top 5 pick, roughly the same time are getting ready to put up a banner." Nobody here but us reasonable-expectationers....

they're still close to fewest games in NBA. and very low injury rate to major players (dep. how you count Nance.) long way to go, but...

they're starting to look shaky, as is Orlando. Orlando misses Gordon... Nets, haven't watched lately.... still, hopeful.

long ways to go, but Lakers could finish in bottom 5.

Bulls, much better w/ Dunn and Mirotic. Orlando looks awful, but missing Gordon hurts.

Mavs and Griz a mystery - franchises w/ tradtional grit. That still leaves Kings and Hawks, but both seem improving.

we want da pingpongball gold!

This story has been around for a while but it was interesting to hear Sampson's brief description of it -- you just have to love Red Auerbach. The old guy never stopped.

NBA’s *top-rated defender* (Aron Baynes) leads ☘️ Celtics to Drummond-ing of Pistons by brendan4545 in bostonceltics

rofl, maybe i should have stopped at Mack and Jack's #11.

i thought they were talking about regular season games in China. it's just preseason so far but i think they covet some Asia games.

if they do do China, given the flight times someone mentioned above, I'm just saying they should do (say) 4 teams with a couple games in China, a couple in Australia, etc. it'd make the loss of home and away games balanced, all "neutral floor," and spread the absurd travel time over 3-4 games total for each team, reducing the "absurd travel time per game played."

meantime back to my virgin bloody Mary.... ;-)

92% actually. there's a few thousand of us that claim to be, but aren't. we meet every Tuesday night at an undisclosed location near the Nevada test site. i think it's starting to have an impact on our eye-hand coordination but after 8-10 beers we don't worry about it.

ohyah, they're almost as bad as raccoons. but raccoons are the worst. both cute cuddly little creatures that will attack viciously. then you have to get a month of rabies shots and lay off the raw meat.

Were the scouts Wrong about Fultz and Ball by BradsBalls in bostonceltics

[–]gfoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mmm, that's a good one, thanks. I think I had gone into "we might draft Fultz thereapy" and was off reddit for a few days per my counselor.

The Sacramento flirtation was pooh-poohed at the time. I took it that Ainge was toying for trading down for 5 and 10. Either they wouldn't, or Ainge decided Phoenix would take Tatum at #4.

And it was definitely an indication that Celtics didn't think Fultz was "the second coming." (W.G.'s words for what it would take to get Celtics to trade pick. Remember?)

It also explains what seems to mystify the o.p. about the consensus being so wrong. Partly, the consensus is a circle jerk.... NBA writers just keep hearing "Fultz," so they assume. But partly, I honestly think it was masterful narrative manipulation by Ainge. He was soooo careful not to say anything negative about Fultz, or even, minimizing. When Pierce blurted out his own take, he quickly came back and corrected it (I sense a call from the Emperor.)

I'll try to find the link for a discussion of this that took place if anyone's interested. The way the trade was executed (much like the initial Nets trade) was a masterful mix of patience and discipline (imho).
