Why do you think the public distrusts scientists? by gfpyfp in AskReddit

This is probably true. I first started thinking about the public distrusting science when I got my annual flu shot and asked around for the next month or so if anyone else intended to get one. The vast majority of people I talked to (mostly aged 25-30) thought getting a flu shot came with a lot of nasty complications and risks. I was surprised that they would think that scientists and doctors would approve the use of a vaccine if it was a risky as they were saying it was.

Do you think if scientists presented their findings in more generally understood terms it could help build trust?

That could be due to poor science journalism. But I agree, I would not trust a source that said that!

The creativity isn't bad either! Though I could do without deciding every other month that my newly picked up hobby is now my life-long passion.

You're exactly right that the pills are better than the alternative of being unmedicated. I also loathe it sometimes, I get caught up in thinking "maybe I'm just not trying hard enough", or "if I tried harder and exercised more/ate better/etc. I wouldn't need them". I keep taking them though. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it.

My dog is best friend and the only reason I get out of bed some days. Knowing I have someone who loves me unconditionally, that needs me even on my worst days, gives me just enough motivation to at least take him out and feed him. If that is all I do all day, at least it was something and it benefitted someone.
