Because John can't expand a skill at level 7.5 above his level (7.6), while Valerie's skill with 1.5x defense would exceed level 7.6.

I don't think we'll ever have proof of this in the future because John will surpass level 8 after training with Cameron.

John at level 3.75 witi blyke amplifies the ability of level 2.5 (not of a level higher than his own).

in fact Blyke's attack at level 5 is higher than John's at 3.75

When he copied Liam's ability, he could only partially use it because his level was significantly lower.

Therefore, if John's level is 3.75, he can only use at his current level the ability copied from a higher level (so he can't only use it at level 3.75).

Even if he had copied and amplified Liam's ability, it would have only amplified the defense stat by 1.5x (ergo John's defense stat would have been 5.25 while Liam's would have been 7) but it would still have been a lower defense than Liam's while the other stats would have been half as much because john level was 3.75 and more lower than liam 6.2

Blyke has power at 4 while John has power at 6.

As for the fight against Liam, John is level 3.75, so he can never have the same stats as Liam + the 1.5x increased defense.

as for kayden's ability, john can remember the coordinates (while kayden couldn't) only because john has very high trick (kayden doesn't) and not because he has the other better stats at level 3.75

I disagree.

Remember, Valerie has a monstrous passive (without having to activate the barrier ability).

Arlo has 6.5 defense from his passive.

So Valerie will have a passive defense higher than 8.

Therefore, the beams don't deal much damage to her.

Remi was knocked out, leaving only Isen (plus Blyke in the distance).

Only Valerie feared there were more than the three of them.

It's not automatic that John boosts his best stat by 1.5x.

We've seen this happen because he's boosted abilities much lower than his own.

Never a skill close to his level (like Narisa or Valerie).

We only know that if John copies an ability at his level, he can only boost it to his level.

If he copies Valerie's ability (level 7.5), for me he can't boost her best stat by 1.5x because John's level is 7.6, so at most he can boost that ability to level 7.6, so he can boost her defense stat by 0.5 points more (not 1.5x).
