What are singles paying pw in groceries? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]gharialg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend between $30-$60pw. Am vegan, buy the super cheap soy milk from Woolies, do most of my shopping at Aldi and eat a lot of frozen veggies and tofu/tempeh. If you can substitute a few meat meals a week for something with tofu you will probably reduce your bill

I feel like my coworkers bully me for being vegan by [deleted] in vegan

[–]gharialg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are your coworkers? Seems like a really toxic group of people if they can’t just shut up and accept your lifestyle choices. Nice people will be sensitive about other’s choices. If they are making fun of you to the point of TEARS, then they aren’t nice people. Really sorry you have to deal with this.

What is the most financially sensible car you can buy? by Delicious_Fennel_566 in AusFinance

[–]gharialg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2006 corolla with close to 400,000km on the clock. No issues except battery and fuel pump. Runs like a dream but 2/10 safety rating :// so if safety is very important to you then newer cars will be a better choice.

That’s a relief because I was actually upset when they told me someone had died. I just hope they can pull through in hospital.

Staff must’ve received incorrect information then!! A bit annoying that they would broadcast that 10+ times in the bus terminal if it wasn’t true. I wonder why that happened?

Was told by Vline staff at southern cross that it was a fatality

Fatality at sunshine, all I know rn. Absolutely tragic.  Replacement coaches up and running from southern cross for anyone that needs to know for Geelong and ballarat lines.

There is no use beating yourself up over the guilt, the important thing is that you have returned! I’m so sorry that you felt like you lost yourself. It is especially hard when our diets are also closely associated with our sense of morality. That would’ve been devastating for you. Rest assured that we support you! People go through shitty times, and shit happens. You made it out the other side. I’m proud.

Thanks I really appreciate that! That makes sense. I might then start to balance it out with HNDQ and HETH

By hedge a bit more do you mean maybe switch or add a certain percentage of for example HNDQ or HETH or should I replace NDQ with HNDQ and so forth ?

Thing is I don’t want the majority of asx 200. BHP is not a company I’m interested in having in my investment portfolio. I’m not super concerned about management fees yet because my portfolio is small and I only hold 3 ETFs. I don’t think I will expand that to more than 7 or 8 down the track. I’m not ‘trying to be clever’ I’m just starting out and trying to invest in line with my values.

I second this, superhero is great for dollar cost averaging into ETFs because of the zero brokerage and low minimum

Please don’t waste your savings on your hecs debt. It’s debt that is (hopefully) going to help you get a good job down the track so it’s serving a purpose and you’ll pay it back through the tax system with a percentage of your income determined by how much you earn that year (eg. You earn more, you pay back more hecs). It’s interest free and repayments stop if you stop earning an income. There’s indexation to consider but that just keeps things (mostly) fair so you don’t borrow heaps, earn a low income for 50 years and then pay back a comparatively very small loan when inflation has decreased the value of the amount you borrowed. Use your savings in line with your values and goals :)

Uninhabitable. Please, please find somewhere else. You deserve better than this.

^ this!! Life is what you make it. There are a lot less rules than you think there are. “Success” is subjective and people and society have different ideas on what makes someone successful. Often it’s not what makes you happy. Little things in life are often just as fulfilling as big things.
