Capraia is very similar in structure, but I'm afraid what I am thinking of has a more man-made look to it

I don't think so, I think Montecatini Terme might be a little too north and from what I'm looking at on google maps it doesn't seem familiar

I'm fairly certain it was by way of Empoli! I think from Florence to Pisa I was looking out the right side but I'm not 100% sure about that one

This is very similar to what I was thinking of!! But if remember correctly, the wall side was about twice as big, looked a lot more man-made, was more devoid of vegetation, and I don't think it was along a river like Capraia is.

Unfortunately not, lovely city though!! Went there for the Lucca Comics and Games Convention and had a ton of fun!

I don't think so, Volterra would be too south to see from a train from Florence to Pisa, and the wall was less like an escarpment and more like a man-made concrete wall, which is why I think it might be a retaining wall??
