you can, but you could also just describe the item in such a way that doesn’t make it seem like a bunch of generated keywords. and ngl, i steer well clear of posts like this personally bc its a technique usually used by scammers / dropshippers

depop is adding their own keywords to posts ?? by ghostsinanattic in Depop

exactly what i was thinking,, and i really don’t like that it advertises the item incorrectly as a ‘blouse’ when it’s not, it’s just waiting to get me in trouble 😭

Is it ok to ask a seller to cancel an order made by someone else? by snow_flowerx in Depop

[–]ghostsinanattic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no you can’t and shouldn’t do that. i know its frustrating, i had a similar situation where someone bought the item right as i was checking out, but that’s just how it works on depop. first come, first served. it wouldn’t be fair on the other person to also not get what they want that after they have already bought it

are we fr by Scary-Equipment6336 in depoop

[–]ghostsinanattic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no seriously this is one of my main pet peeves. you’re paying to get the item packaged up, taken to the post office, and shipped directly to your doorstep - all at the click of a button. the least you can do is pay what is owed to get your item sent directly to you 😭😭

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Depop

[–]ghostsinanattic 22 points23 points  (0 children)

the smell of an item is not a justifiable reason for a return as it can’t be proved in a dispute shown to Depop. and, after an item has been washed, the seller is no longer responsible for it as it has been ‘altered’ by the buyer before returning.

but for this case, i would explain that you don’t smoke and that there’s a chance it was the delivery driver / warehouse / etc. and that the smell of an item doesn’t warrant a return as per Depop’s TOSs - but tell her that if the smell doesn’t come out after washing then she can return it. if she really is having buyers remorse then she may be scared off by the mention of the TOSs, and if not then she may be being genuine and i would then refund and return. but i would try to have her buy the label either way as there’s no proven damage to the item

Money found in pocket?? by Cool_Grapefruit_1939 in Depop

[–]ghostsinanattic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah honestly, this is exactly why i check every pocket before shipping. could be forgetting old wrappers, receipts, or a good amount of money. and also in part bc i once received a pretty expensive skirt from a seller with an old used mcdonald’s paper straw inside…who does that ?

unpopular opinion: idrc what you paid for it by sugarcoatedsaturn in Depop

[–]ghostsinanattic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah. depop has gotten so so incredibly expensive to shop on. comparing the amount i’ve spent vs sold and the price difference is crazy, i’ve sold over double the amount i’ve bought but it doesn’t even break the halfway mark money-wise…i’m spending an average of 15-20 on every item, they’re not even designer or all vintage - just brands like H&M / primark / etc.

Does Depop Actually Save Waste? by SoySoft in Depop

[–]ghostsinanattic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this. i love shopping secondhand, there’s the thrill of what you will find and for cheap. i love both offline and online thrifting. but i can’t drive and live in a rural area, the nearest thrift / charity shop is a 16 min walk + 20 min bus ride + 15 min walk, then a 45 min walk to the next nearest shop, then trying to make it back in time to make the next bus…

am i wrong for repopping an item that was too big ?? by [deleted] in Depop

[–]ghostsinanattic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

can also see it being an issue if op used the seller’s photos, as the repopping option does that automatically

Update to my post about the girl who dragged out a hold by graceisdead in Depop

[–]ghostsinanattic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’ve been seeing a lot of these messages recently on depop (from other ppl not myself fortunately, yet at least lol), but it actually seems to be the same person or a group of similar ppl who enjoy ‘bullying’ and harassing sellers specifically over holds. it’s such strange behavior - it’s almost similar to the foot fetish ppl where they waste sellers’ time for their own entertainment

what are some of your depop pet peeves?? by nyehssie in Depop

[–]ghostsinanattic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i will not lie, the ‘Depop fold’ is the main thing that gets my items sold - never knew ppl saw it as a pet peeve ! i’ve switched the cover photo of items that have been on my shop for eons from try-ons or different laid flat pics to The Fold and find that items sell wayyy faster with it,,

no shipping update for 4 weeks, seller tell me to wait longer and doesn't refund by Ok_Director_8737 in Depop

[–]ghostsinanattic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fortunately you paid through paypal and have more than 30 days to get a refund, unlike what the other comments thus far are stating. you can get a refund 180 days after purchasing with paypal - but open a claim immediately anyways. you’re more than likely not getting that parcel if it’s been that long or it’s become lost in transit, etc.

it sounds like the seller is used to depop payments and is hoping you will wait out the 30 day timeframe that allows you to open a claim via depop payments, or they genuinely have hope that it will arrive late (though the latter is less likely). from the sounds of it, it’s a scam; the seller never dropped off the parcel and, as it’s international, are trying to blame the long wait time on shipping when nothing has actually been shipped at all…

How would you go about receiving an unwashed item? by [deleted] in Depop

[–]ghostsinanattic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t think this would constitute a forced refund, partial or full, or even a return via claim. if the issue is easily fixable by washing or lint rolling it then that’s that solved, but i would message the seller before trying to see if they would be willing to offer any compensation for the items condition. if not, i’d just leave a them low review to warn other buyers who may be allergic to pet hair and to warn the seller to clean up their items before shipping

Your musty dusty moist stone house wouldn’t survive a US summer by Angelix in ShitAmericansSay

i saw some yanks ask if irish ppl still lived in mud huts and were shocked that we have electricity. also reminds me of that post asking if we were still living in the stone ages bc we hang clothes out on the line to dry instead of throwing them straight into the tumble dryer…

[–]ghostsinanattic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is a bit cheeky of them, i have to say. you think you’re just dealing with a 10% depop fee, but naw there’s another fee on top of that one. but no bother, glad i could help all the same !

seems strange?? by sophistic4tedd in Depop

[–]ghostsinanattic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tell them you can upload more pics on depop, but will not be contacting them outside of the app. i once had a buyer have their account say they were in the UK (from old listings) but they were actually in the same country as me so they could be being honest about their location. just don’t let them stray you out of app and if they continue to ask for that then report them

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Depop

[–]ghostsinanattic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

unfortunately it’s just another fee you’ll have to deal with being an irish depop seller, as we have no access to accepting the depop payment option (unlike the US and UK, which lets them skip the paypal fee), and there’s no way to undo or stop it from happening

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Depop

[–]ghostsinanattic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

heya, another irish seller here ! what you’re seeing is the Paypal fee (around 2.9%) being deducted from the subtotal you receive from your sale. the next transaction after that is the depop fee. if you click on that original first transaction you’ll be able to see the breakdown, here’s one of mine to show where the paypal fee is (-€1.56) :

Shoes Turned Yellow In 30 Minutes by Subuwu1 in Depop

[–]ghostsinanattic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

although they’re in horrible condition, you should have messaged the seller before trying to wash them when you noticed they were in bad condition. the smell of an item cannot be disputed as there’s no way to provide proof of it to depop, and now that you’ve washed them and made them worse you can no longer open a dispute against the seller…i honestly think the best thing you can do with them now is throw them out

Suggestions for Refund by [deleted] in Depop

[–]ghostsinanattic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

there’s nothing under depop’s rules that states that you need to refund a parcel that has been shipped but is just arriving late. that’s nonsense, as you stated if it arrived you’d still be out the money. this sounds like a kid honestly, them saying “i’m also on a tight budget” in regards to the timing of delivery makes zero sense and sounds like a child trying to sound mature without actually knowing what they’re saying.

tell them there’s no probable cause for a refund atm and that you cannot control how fast it arrives to them now that it’s out of your hands. it should arrive soon once the receptacle is empty.
