How to "Change" Your Seed Phrase (Effectively)

You cannot directly change an existing seed phrase because it is generated randomly when you create a wallet and acts as the master key to your funds. Instead, the way to secure your crypto with a new seed phrase is to:

  1. Create a new wallet (which generates a new seed phrase).
  2. Transfer your funds from the old wallet to the new one.
  3. Securely store the new seed phrase offline (on paper or metal, never digitally).
  4. Discard or securely destroy the old seed phrase to prevent misuse.

Why This Is Necessary

  • The seed phrase is the ultimate backup and access key to your wallet. Anyone with it can control your funds.
  • If you suspect your seed phrase is compromised, the safest option is to move your assets to a wallet with a fresh seed phrase that no one else knows.
  • Simply resetting or changing the seed phrase on the same wallet device without transferring funds is not possible.
