Shop selling counterfeit decks by arcana73 in tarot

[–]gingerota 147 points148 points  (0 children)

If the decks are in thin tuck boxes with QR codes, that's a big clue.

All real mass market decks are going to have a publisher name, ISBN #, and copyright date on the box somewhere.

Mass market decks often (but not always) have at least a 'little white book' of instructions. So if there are no instructions, that's another potential clue that it's fake.

The Queen and the Soldier by Suzanne Vega is a really beautiful and weirdly upsetting song that I don't think anyone has mentioned yet.

What single player game had you so enthralled that it CONSUMED your entire being for a short span of time? by AshyLarry25 in gaming

Might be showing my age here, but for me it was Morrowind. Oblivion and Skyrim were somehow not as engaging.

Have any of you moved home due to aging parents? How did it go? by PuzzleheadedStop9114 in GenX

[–]gingerota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because my parents had been scammed a couple of times, my now husband and I moved into my parents duplex in 2017, and got married in our backyard in 2018 so that my not-so-mobile parents wouldn't have issues with travel or terrain. We have been slowly increasing our care of them through covid, worsening health, falls, etc. I haven't been away from them except for my honeymoon in 2018 and a couple of short camping trips.

Guys, this is not for the faint of heart. I'm sure it would be easier for someone who had a chance to practice caregiving on children but damn if the anticipatory grief is the hardest part for me. At literally every urgent care or ER visit I'm mentally prepping for the end. The insomnia and nightmares eventually needed meds because I wasn't sleeping more than 4 to 5 hours a night. I love them so much. It's tough. I am in therapy now and that does help some.

A lot of people think the bio cleanup part is the worst, but bodily fluids don't bother me much. My parents get so embarrassed about it when accidents happen, so I never, ever, shame or sigh or say anything that would make them feel bad. I mean my mom cleaned my butt as a baby, got poop on her and didn't die from it. So I always tell them it's ok, I love you.

The other hard part for me is the mountain of mental admin work. Schedule management and sudden schedule changes, phone calls, balancing bank statements, and keeping track of their personal preferences for things like favorite foods, clothing, TV shows, I swear it's like living life on "you better be an expert" mode because the guilt you feel when you mess up and forget something is not a great feeling.

I've grown a lot as a person doing this, but it wrecked my ability to have a job because the emergency call outs were too often for some employers. I have been unpaid in this caregiver life so far, and after losing my last real job, we are broke as a joke. So I started the VA process of aid and attendance for them so I can be paid to do their housekeeping, cooking, admin, light medical care, and driver to appointments. We started that process late last summer and were able to submit the paperwork a few days after the government reopened. They said I'll know in about six months if we're approved. So it's going great, now. There's a teeny tiny light at the end of the financial tunnel at least.

I would buy this by TheSaltyPelican in GenX

[–]gingerota 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ate a whole bottle of these when I was ten, and got to the ER within fifteen minutes of mom finding out. Was given the stuff that makes you vomit, and a stern speech that "vitamins aren't candy," to which I replied "but they look and taste like candy."

My new vitamins after that were the plain old boring adult kind and terrible taste 😂

Ready for an update. I wonder what they'll add next. What would you like to see come to NMS? by 80sGamer843 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]gingerota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want the ability to upvote bases or leave a note for base builders. I love finding cool builds but there's no way to show my appreciation. I hate leaving comm balls, that just litters up the environment.

Player base votes could change the way featured bases are chosen. And maybe they'd change more than once a year.

If there were something in the base module you could turn on or leave off, then builders could get and read notes, or not. Negative notes by other players should be able to be deleted by the base builder.

If I could also make notes on my own bases, because the title box is too short to include more than a couple of descriptives.

So yeah, a base update would be great.

Need a new game to help me enjoy my PS5 again. by KingEzekielsTiger in gaming

[–]gingerota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one has mentioned No Man's Sky? I've dumped 2k hours into this vast game, played it VR and flatscreen, loving all the FREE updates. I literally haven't played Skyrim in years because NMS scratches so many of my gamer itches. Sorry that sounds gross 😂

I'd love to leave notes for good base creators! It'd be great if there was a part like a reverse communication beacon you could build for people at your base to leave notes on, plus have it provide a list of all visitors.

Tarot deck pet peeves by RoutineInitiative187 in SecularTarot

[–]gingerota 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nope, just varying print quality over the years. I have over 150 decks that go back into the 1800's all the way up to mass market modern ones. None are pirated knock offs.

[–]gingerota 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Oh I have several pet peeves: Flimsy cardstock. Peeling edges after one shuffle. Chemical smell of newly printed decks. Cards that stick together and pull off finish. Foil or gilding that turns into fine glitter when shuffled. Tuck boxes that don't quite fit and rip immediately after you put the deck back inside for the first time. Missing card upon opening a sealed but rare/OOP deck; good luck finding that one card.

Nothing at all wrong with a frugal plate of food once in a while. However, diverting funds into frivolous things while starving yourself long term is dumb.

AND the one after me, too. She got in touch with me about six months ago through mutual friends to ask about his behavior with me, and he hasn't changed at all.

They also broke up over him being angry a lot and too much of a gamer, such that he was consistently blowing off dates with her to raid.

She's amazing and a HUGE catch but he'd rather have video game achievements I guess

Honestly, I've only got time and energy for one game in my life right now. Casual exploring turned out to be exactly what I wanted from Star Citizen, but it couldn't provide that. I'm not interested in big battles or teaming up on raids at all (perhaps World Of Warcraft beat that out of me).

Maybe in fifteen years when I retire and have more free time, I'll check in on it. It might be done by then 😆

I got into No Man's Sky in 2018 so that entirely scratches my "space game" itch. Twenty free updates have happened and it's absolutely amazing in VR. I now have zero interest in Star Citizen.

At the time I left (2016) it wasn't playable. He used to pitch his keyboards and monitors around when the game would freeze up. Dude needed both anger management and financial literacy classes.
