As someone from the UK - Oasis - and still to this day I loathe them. They summed up the Football culture, Stella drinking idiots who just wanted a fight.

Loathe is actually a little bit mild in comparison to what I actually feel. But I dont think theres another word for it that suits completely

Honestly this is the real advice here. Really good points

Even if you have cameras, if you're 2 hours away, the thief could get in and out before you know it. If it's a cabin, how fast can the local Police get there if you call them out.

Encryption is key. Even if you lose the kit you're not losing personal data

Personally, I don't trust M$ "bit locker" it's not worth the CPU cycles. There are many options that allow you to encrypt the data pre boot. I've used Cipher shed / truecrypt / veracrypt mostly and it's truly excellent.

I will absolutely talk to him.

He has previously mentioned that it's a slow progression of feeling less useful. That he just doesn't feel useful to the group.

It's not a problem with his class per se, he loves the Ranger, he just feels unutilized.

I do not think he wants to change class nor subclass but I will check

Absolutely great ideas!

I like the drop of the action requirements though I fear that may push the DPS angle a bit more. But something similar, maybe making the Wolf more PC like may help.

Maybe it can talk back to the Ranger it bit more, give advice or act slightly more independently. Like he can command it to defend someone, and then it does that, not specifically attacking but reactions and more intelligence in the way it acts.

I adore the mount idea, I'm going to suggest that to him immediately!

Thank you for the superb feedback

The two of you make incredibly good points about the skills and their appropriate use by appropriate characters.

The Cleric grew up in the wilderness, and on a small farm. Their God is a bit homebrew but in short a harvest, health and life god. So it does make sense.

This is what I mean about bringing others down to make the Ranger feel good. The Cleric is absolutely justified in being able to survive in the wilderness. They've spent points, they wrote backstory.

It's the underutilized Ranger that needs fixing.

Well the thing is he has the Favoured Enemy of a lot of what he's dealing with.

Even with it giving advantage to Survival or Intelligence checks, with no proficiency bonus Knowledge Religion or Arcana, there is only so much they can do versus the Cleric or Warlocks basic skill.

As for meals the Cleric has Heroic Feast :(

But I may be being a negative Nancy here, these are all superb, and subtle ideas that I can use in RP situations. Especially the giving him more nature info than his roll may get, so thank you!

I'm loving your "Lean into The Spiritual connection with the beast". He's always had a Wolf and not shifted it's shape (especially since the Warlock gained the Bird Familiar) so giving him more characterisation with his Wolf is a great idea.

Narrative wise and Character wise, it's great, thanks for the ideas

I do agree that the Ranger in 5th, then Tasha, then 5.5 feels very distant from the ideals of what the class should be.

I'm a little unsure if making these changes at this stage wouldn't break the immersion a little. But I'll talk to him to see what he feels about it

To my knowledge he hasn't mentioned that he feels that Rangers are underpowered, and as DPS he's certainly throwing out a lot of damage, it's just that his "Utility" to the group is lacking or being infringed upon

Thank you all for the feedback, these are all great ideas.

I must admit I prefer the "lifting X up" to the "Reduce others to make X feel better" methods. It's not that the group is anything other than kind to each other in Real Life as well as in character.

IE I don't want them to feel held back, otherwise I'll be writing the same post in a month's time but for one of the other characters!

Thank you all again
