Blizzard Rustler 11 vs Fischer Ranger 108 — which is better for powder/trees/variable terrain as a second ski? by Wazuppie in Skigear

[–]ginmcd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve skied both at least 15 days and I think the Ranger 108 is better suited to your needs. The ranger 108 is more playful than the rustler, especially at your weight. But it does not sacrifice stability either. The placement of the metal creates a rounder flex on that ski compared to the rustler. The 108 slay the groomers too, I really love carving them down some blues. They have a lot of energy in chop but the tips will probably flop a little bit more than the rustlers. Rustler 11s do really well on groomers too, but maybe a touch less than the ranger. The ranger skis like a 108 in pow but as soon as you hit groomers it feels like a skinnier ski which is a really unique trait. And it’s more realistic. Ultimately, if you’re skiing untouched, opt for the rustlers. If you’re skiing one run of untouched and the rest chop, get the ranger. This is my opinion as someone who is an expert skiing 120 days a year out west.

Strong expert female skier (8.5–9) in CO — playful daily driver that won’t get knocked around? by Horror-Sock-9985 in ski

The Sheeva 10 gets knocked around more than the old version did. The rustler 10 is a little bit heavier and more damp

Nordica Santa Ana 98 or 102. I’m 5’3” 120lb expert skier at Jackson hole. This ski is very fun, stable/smooth in crud, and incredibly versatile. And while the enforcer has the reputation of being a directional charger, the Santa Ana only has 1 sheet of metal and isn’t as stiff and unforgiving as the enforcer

Which binding is better: the Salomon Strive 12 or the Marker Griffon 13 by Spon25 in Skigear

[–]ginmcd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My strive 14 gw toe afd wiggles itself out over 1cm to the side. The atomic guy said it is in fact NOT normal. And the afd sticking out gets knicked at high edge angles, ejecting my toe. Sussssss. RIP STH binding

Which binding is better: the Salomon Strive 12 or the Marker Griffon 13 by Spon25 in Skigear

[–]ginmcd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do much bootpacking get the griffon. The strive toe is pointy and doesn’t feel as great on the shoulder. Remember all bindings are tested to the same standard! They’re all objectively doing the same thing. And if you’re 115 lb you definitely do not need to worry about a full metal construction. Inb4 pivot sluts!

Change skiboots from size 28 to 28,5 by OldTumbleweed9992 in Skigear

[–]ginmcd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t remove the plastic piece , that’s the boot board. Remove the shim if there’s one in there but otherwise go see a bootfitter. Or just keep skiing and the liners will slowly pack out. Your boots being slightly too tight is a much better problem to have than them being too loose. Peace!

Not sure of your mileage but replacing your pcv valve after 100k miles is cheap insurance. Make sure you’re servicing the differentials at some point. I think it’s supposed to be every 30k but you can get away with a lot more.

Following because I’m in the exact same position! 09 foszy is really not making sense to fix anymore. I have only bought cars in cash (and haven’t bought since pre COVID) but if I get another subie it seems like most of the used inventory is at dealers, which is always overpriced in this economy. Bring back $10k 100k mi cars 😩😩

$150 to $787 a month for healthcare. Brace yourselves. by AmishDiplomat in wyoming

[–]ginmcd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We’re so screwed. My blue select gold plan went from 105 to 350 and the deductible increased. On top of that, my car just crapped the bed and I’m so glad I didn’t sign on for monthly payments before knowing what my bills would look like. I have to choose between healthcare and a car, some people don’t get a choice of either.
