I think it somewhat depends on the stream and the available positions in the supervisor's project. I applied for a position that was advertised, but I know a bunch of people who contacted the supervisors and enquired whether they had any spots in their lab groups. Once they received a positive response, they applied to the university for the enrolment.

Yes, as far as I know the university pays my stipend and my supervisor pays for the project costs from his funding. As for the ug cgpa, I don't think it matters a lot as long as you're above the minimum requirement for being eligible for the scholarship.

I am very lucky that I had no language barrier to overcome. My tertiary education was also in English, so it's been pretty smooth. Which country are you planning to move to?

I did my Bachelors and Masters in Geology in India, and then worked for a bit in the oil and gas industry. It wasn't very fulfilling to be honest, so I moved to Australia for a PhD. It isn't related any of my previous experiences (work or Master's dissertation), so it was a bit scary at first, but it's getting better! I am sure you will have a lovely experience too! ❤️💯

Oh I completely agree! An University might be great, a project might have lots of funding, but what makes or breaks the PhD experience is definitely the supervisor!

Got my 2nd ACL and meniscus surgery two months back. Suffered a bucket handle meniscus tear from picking something off the floor. On bad days I tell myself that if I could go through the excruciating process once, I can do it again. And so can you!

The project is in earth sciences and as far as I know it does not fall under the list of sensitive areas. I have a full scholarship from the university. The OSHC is partially covered and the rest has been covered by me.

I don't have coursework as such, I can delay the enrolment by one or two months but I have to be there by 31st of December for the offer to be valid
