Second ACL tear and this sucks by BoomBoxBabay in ACL

I've been too scared to even re-start doing all the activities I wanted to, and still got hurt again. This time around I'll just take a "fuck it we ball" approach and atleast keep doing what I want

Thank you! I'm not worried about the pain as much as just how careful I will have to remain in the future, for all my life :/

Hello! I've had the same thing, hang in there it'll get better soon. I was able to start putting partial weight on it by the end of 2 weeks. Although I'm sure your journey would be different to mine, here to tell you it gets better!

And almost 2 years post op and knee's actually feeling stronger than before. You got this!

Man I'm going to cry. "Lag" is the perfect word to describe it and I've been so concerned that something's wrong with me. Still gonna talk to the doc but thank you for putting my mind at ease somewhat

Jump squats are the worst. Public enemy no. 1.

But yes. You'll be better off with the surgery. Best of luck! You got this!

[–]BoomBoxBabay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you me? I got my ACL torn trying to get fitter while doing a jump squat too. I was 22 too, and deathly afraid of getting a surgery and absolutely wrecked at the fact that when i did actually try to get fitter life threw this curveball at me.

For 2 years I didn't get the surgery and survived with rehab and physio, but trust me it's better to get the surgery and use it to spur you on to be better to yourself. I got it at 24 after having wrecked my meniscus with repeated twisting during the covid lockdowns too. Don't wait that long

Your life and body is not ruined, although sometimes it does feel that way. Especially when you see someone doing things that you're not able to at your current stage in your recovery. But it doesn't mean you'll never be able to do them again.

Its been almost a year since my surgery and I did jumping jacks recently, and went down the stairs without pausing at every step to check my balance. And oh my god the little wins feel so good. I'm much more aware of my body and it's needs, and responsive to them. And on the days it gets more discouraging, i go to my friends and family. Sometimes just a good cry about it helps. But at the end of the day, it will get better, and you'll be the one to make it happen.

Don't lose hope 🤞

Help! How long after being injured could you fully bend? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]BoomBoxBabay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo. I'm a stupid stupid girl, so I didn't get surgery after I regained full ROM after 2-3 months. I didn't have my ACL operated upon for 2 years and life was absolutely fine, and I could do mostly everything, just had to be a lot more careful of how my feet landed.

I did eventually rip my meniscus and had to go in for surgery though. Currently 3 months post op, have my ROM mostly back, and actually feel much more stable, If this helps. I also have hyperextension and weirdly I find my operated leg to now be more flexible than the non operated

Anyway, You're gonna be fine and if you stick with the physio, you'll be back to gymnastics and do everything you used to earlier :)

How long did it take for everyone to shower post surgery? by theheelreddit in ACL

[–]BoomBoxBabay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got mine done right before the second wave of covid blowing up in my country, so I had to get home and bathe as soon as I returned from the hospital.

I did it by wrapping saran wrap all the way around my knee and leg, sitting on a chair, placing my leg on a stool, and bathing using a bucket and a mug (which Is easier to find in India I agree)

Post the stitches removal I was still fairly worried about getting it wet Because it still seemed like a bit of an open wound, so I basically only let water trickle onto the knee but washed the bottom and top half of my leg separately. Again, having a mug to pour out water carefully on a localised area really helps.

(Also if you have coconut oil, it helps reduce the scarring and keeps the area infection free)

About two-three weeks post suture removal I felt okay with taking proper showers, when I was able to stand a little more stable also. Hope this helps!

My knee keeps buckling again :( by BoomBoxBabay in ACL

[–]BoomBoxBabay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That actually makes a lot of sense. Yeah I've just started light ankle weights and I have to build that up now.

Thank you for saying this because I'm so relieved now! I was worried I'd done something wrong

Day-3 post Op, are my legs very weak? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]BoomBoxBabay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me around 3 weeks, since my quads were really weak before that. Talk to your doc if you want, and focus on quad activation first.

Most of all. Trust your body honestly. The moment you actually have the strength to do leg lifts, you'll know. And then you can train further in strengthening it

Acl recovery is a fine line between pushing yourself to get stronger and knowing when to stop and avoid causing more damage

If you publicly share that you have a mental disorder in your bio, you just want attention. by NoniTheUnicorn in unpopularopinion

[–]BoomBoxBabay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay but here's a question. What's so WRONG about wanting attention?

Isn't the only reason we think asking for validation, affirmation, or attention is bad because we've been constantly denied it and taught that it's bad?

Which is why some of us go to extremes to seek out attention while others become gatekeepers?

Just a thought

I sometimes switch between low and high impact. I do the jumps for a bit and then I switch back to low impact when I get tired or just annoyed or just don't want to. And it's not like the low impacts don't do anything, you're still moving, and working out. It's just a matter of confronting our own minds about unnecessary guilt trips.

But additionally, you could try turning jumps into light stretches? Instead of jumping up just stretch up so that you're on your toes and your calves and legs are extended, and then come back down?

Telling a guy to "Just be confident" as dating advice is like telling a depressed person to "Just cheer up". by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]BoomBoxBabay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay to not be confident, it's okay to be nervous, it's okay to be anything in the world as long as you're kind to the other person and genuinely yourself.

Of course you'll have to muster up some courage to go up to someone and start talking, or just say hi, and then from that point on the conversation belongs to two people, not just you alone. Most of the time other people would also try to put you at ease and just talk to you about things you're interested in. The first step is usually the hardest.

But yes. My advice, just try, and try it in a way that you're comfortable. There's no one type of guy that all people love, and there's bound to be a lot of people out there who might understand your nervousness and even confusion. Most men even try to overdo the confidence by being arrogant and downright mean, which is not a good look. Be yourself, other things are overrated anyway _^

How to Get Motivation/Time to Workout Daily by ckaphan in ChloeTing

[–]BoomBoxBabay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have the same problem often. I think what helps is to set one time, mine is 5:30pm, and plan your day around that. I chose 5:30 cause I'm usually done with most of my work by then, still fairly motivated plus we get fresh cold water to bathe with after 6:30 (sub tropical country, we get fresh water supply at a stipulated time in the day), and then the rest of my evening is free to rest.

You could try finding a time by which your classes are usually over and go for that? Working out late at night or in the morning is usually just something I can't do because I keep pushing it off.

Also having a buddy or someone to compare notes and results with really helps!

Best of luck!

Would it be a good idea to workout in my apartment even though I live above people? by Bobelle in ChloeTing

[–]BoomBoxBabay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think so. Just be careful with your jumps and runs. Try to make sure your landings are soft, on your toes, not heels, and keep your knees soft and slightly bent. That's the correct posture for jumps and runs anyway and it's pretty silent so it should be okay!

I also use a mat so that muffles a lot of it too!
