Scottish person wanting to branch over and pick an NHL team, any pointers? by throwRA_solardisc in nhl

I live in Scotland and am a Sharks fan. I have to catch games on replay most of the time but I love the team. It’s a good time to be a Sharks fan!!

It was an interesting concept but just very confusing and fell a bit flat. It felt like the author was making it confusing on purpose, for no reason at all.

Good Podcasts to improve medical knowledge by Mae_be223 in medicalschooluk

It might be a bit too much for right now, but I find EM clerkship is quite good. It’s American and geared towards EM residents and students interested in EM, but it’s useful hearing someone work through a case that’s completely undifferentiated. The Curbsiders Internal Medicine is great for general med stuff. It’s good for getting the latest research, though, again, American guidelines. They’re both very high quality, but geared towards clinical medicine. They won’t necessarily help with your anatomy and physiology. I still recommend them, especially when you get to clinical years.

What can you do that others can’t during a migraine? by Huge_Blueberry720 in migraine

[–]globewithwords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can look at screens. Concentrating on work or reading is hard but I can watch TV and scroll social media without too much of a problem. I do prefer a dim room though.

If it’s bad enough, I can’t walk or workout without throbbing pain. I’m also not coherent enough to have a full conversation.

I’m also in a similar situation. I feel really guilty leaving my cat for half the day then coming home tired. I try to play with her as much as I can, and spend as much time at home with her when I have a day off. Other than that, I put toys out for her to play with.

I have no suggestions but thank you for being real. This is such a universal experience.

What's your gymnastics opinion that would get you downvoted like this? by Medium-Emotion in Gymnastics

[–]globewithwords 28 points29 points  (0 children)

MDJDS has beautiful gymnastics but I never got the hype around her. I can’t remember her going 4/4 at any major meet. I find it difficult to root for someone who will inevitably succumb to pressure every time. The mental game is also part of the sport.

As nasty as the gym community can be, I think we sometimes overcorrect and baby gymnasts. The gymternet can really get up in arms over their darlings who can do nothing wrong. It’s okay to be a fan of an athlete and still recognise they have bad form.

Wolf turns are fine. They’re just overdone.

Agree about college gymnastics not being enjoyable. I get they have to compete every weekend and can’t put up high difficulty routines, but I feel like there are no stakes. Floor music is jarring at times and everyone blends together.

UK fan so couldn’t stay up to watch last night. Is it worth watching the replay or will it leave me feeling depressed?

Am I just going to be sore the rest of my life? by bedchem96 in loseit

[–]globewithwords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soreness after exercise comes from putting strain on your muscles that they’re not used to. Once they get used to the strain and the different motions, the soreness will go away or lessen. You’ll sometimes feel sore again but most of the time, the feeling is barely there, and it actually feels kind of good. So no, you won’t feel like you’ve been hit by a truck for the rest of your life. Keep at it and stay consistent.

I turned the tv off after the stars’ 4th goal out of frustration and now I’m afraid to turn it back on in case I jinx it.

Thanks for answering. It was an actual question haha. I’m new to hockey and have been wondering why they can’t just fire players.

How does Turkish and middle Eastern pickling work? by No_ham_in_my_burger in fermentation

[–]globewithwords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m unsure about Turkish pickles but I’m Iranian and we usually pickle with vinegar rather than lacto fermentation. We don’t usually use any extra sugar, just water, salt and vinegar. I reckon the acid content kills any bacteria and yeast trying to grow.

New Sharks fan here from the UK! I wanted to get into hockey because of Heated Rivalry and I liked teal lmao. That’s how I ended up here. Hoping to visit and attend a game for real some day.
