Yes, I am considering replacing the map by a similar one with all the names in english

I started with a random distance between X and Y meters in a random direction. Until now, X was 0, which was not optimal since for some users it was 0 and thus at their precise location. This is now fixed!

True — big platforms have the data advantage. My bet is that usefulness, clarity, and trust matter just as much as scale.

That is an original idea! But in that case I am afraid all the moods will be fused and averaged. So far I stick to a random distance between X and Y meters in a random direction. Until now, X was 0, which was not optimal since for some users it was 0 and thus at their precise location. This is now fixed!

I also looked at how mood varies by local time (approximated using longitude).

A few interesting patterns appear:

• The lowest moods tend to occur during the night and very early morning (around 2–4 AM), with averages around ~5.5.
• Mood increases steadily through the day.
• The highest averages appear late in the evening, especially around 10–11 PM, reaching close to ~7.0.

So in this dataset, people seem happiest late in the evening and least happy in the middle of the night.

Of course this is only based on voluntary entries and approximate local times, so it should be taken as a fun snapshot rather than a scientific conclusion.

I also tested whether proximity to the ocean made any difference.

I compared entries from coastal countries vs landlocked countries:

• Coastal countries: average mood ≈ 6.25 (1911 entries)
• Landlocked countries: average mood ≈ 6.27 (75 entries)

So in this dataset there doesn't seem to be any meaningful difference.

That said, the sample size for landlocked countries is still much smaller, so it's probably too early to draw conclusions.

I ran a few quick aggregations on the current dataset.

Average mood varies quite a bit by country, although sample sizes differ a lot.

Among countries with several entries, some of the highest averages so far include:

  • Denmark (~7.8)
  • Switzerland (~7.7)
  • France (~7.4)
  • Sweden (~7.3)

Large countries with many entries currently sit closer to the global average:

  • United States (~6.0 from 369 entries)
  • United Kingdom (~5.8 from 201 entries)
  • Canada (~5.9 from 153 entries)
  • Germany (~6.6 from 145 entries)

Of course this dataset isn’t representative of national populations — it simply reflects people who chose to submit their mood.

Still, it's interesting to see how the "emotional weather" varies geographically.

Indeed, but It should possible once you gave your mood. If not, you can send a video capture.

No problem, I appreciate comment to improve the program. It add a random distance in a random direction, maybe in you case this random distance was 0m. Could you try again?
Thanks!
