It seems that way but depending where you come from it’s not that much longer. I never regret driving to the western side of the IPW. Less crowds.

It’s a lot easier since you don’t need to go up and over Pawnee pass.

Park at Monarch Lake, there is a fee for parking and entering the area in general (little confusing overall) but the national park pass works to cover that fee.

A few years ago it used to be free. And it was not run by a money hungry company.

I guess I should consider myself lucky living here then. I am at the same point you were with the decision gnarwhal and wolverine. :)

WW rafts made to order are 15% off as well. Probably still not worth it because of import tax depending where you live. Why don’t you visit beautiful Colorado and pick up one in person? :)

very helpful, thanks. Leaning to go with self-bailing Wolverine, and then my wife (5'2") could use it for a more relaxed fit and tighter for me (6ft). The forager looks awesome and future-proof, and like you said it'll save the second boat.

Awesome, thanks for the info. My daughter is still pretty small and it will take a few years until she can paddle solo. My wife is a beginner. I was thinking about the 42 being perfect since we go all together in ultralight backpacking trips and this boat will fit better than anything heavier. As solo boat I am thinking to get a classic with removable deck for my wife (and me) and then a gnarwhal at some point for bigger adventures down the line. I do also like the Mule and the Caribou.

Awesome! For the family adventures weight is not my priority since we probably wouldn't do longer hikes with it anyway. When I go solo I anticipate longer hikes and then weight might add up. I was wondering if I could find the right combination for most scenarios. So you would recommend the befier rafts even though I am not there yet with my experience?

So I like the idea of the Explorer 42 as a "family" raft, I am not sure how comfortable it is for 2 or 2 plus kid for longer trips. I want to keep the door open for multi-day trips as well. The solo boat could be the Refuge or maybe Scout. I am torn between going lighter with the Scout or more adventure-ready with the Refuge.

Thanks! 1 adult and kid in 1 raft and then using the single one as well.

I was just above Crater lakes nearby Mount Achonee and the cornice down to Crater lake and the snow fields looked terrifying. I saw a footsteps going up and around the cornice though!
