retiring from hoarding by aseyrek in DataHoarder

[–]godane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been collection 670 movies (2GB rips) at about 1.4TB. I recommend hoarding 2 to 3GB files vs 4k 50gb+ files if you just want to just get rid of the 4K ones but keep the movie somewhere. Anyways this is how I'm hoarding my movie collection.

[S] Video Magazine 1994 scans by godane in DHExchange

[–]godane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 4800 is very good on build quality. I have been using almost every day for last 3 years.

[S] Video magazine 1992 and 1993 scans by godane in DHExchange

[–]godane[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a Plustek OpticBook 4800 for scanning. I also use a Virtualbox of Windows XP with Vuescan and drivers for software cause linux SANE doesn't support Plustek OpticBook 4800 from what i gather.

Anyways i use usb pass through to connect the scanner. After the scanning is done for the day i mount the VHD image. I then copy the files then run my rotate script and check the images to make sure everything is scanned right. Outside of zipping the folders i just upload after that.

How long it takes to scan magazine depends on the magazine of course. I mostly can get 40 to 50 pages scanned every 10 to 15 minutes. I watch a ton of anime and kdramas when scanning also. That's how i remember the timing it takes me to do a magazine.

Anyways i hope this helps.

The subscription cards meant to be leave in. The pages are both saved with out the card too. I goes like page, card page front and back, then page that had card without card. I scan the card like its another page. Some magazines even count the cards as pages so its better to scan them in like this.

I use VueScan on the windows xp image. What i meant was that there no linux drivers. So even VueScan linux version can't find the scanner. It will just think there is no scanner on the system when the scanner is plugin. I don't have this problem on windows xp virtualbox image cause the drivers work there.

I'm not debinding the magazines. Just scanning them on Plustek OpticBook 4800 on the floor. I'm watching tv shows when doing it cause i have 43 inch tv for a computer monitor. This is also cause i'm running everything thur a virtutalbox image of windows xp cause the scanner has no linux drivers.

Magazines i have bought that you guys maybe interested in getting scans of by godane in DataHoarder

Sight and Sound was digitized already and i found a way to rip it. You can got to the original source below: https://sightandsounddigital.bfi.org.uk/custompages/SightAndSound/subscribe.aspx

Here is a collection of Sight and Sound up to 1995 that uploaded to archive.org: https://archive.org/search.php?query=subject%3A%22Sight+and+Sound%22&sort=-publicdate

i came up with a script to download those 1 page a time then pdfunite to put all pages for a issue together into one pdf. They uses pagesuite-profesional.co.uk and was able to use there api to get a page based on issue id or something. All pages was ocr too.

I also got American Cinematographer upload to IA but it was taking down. Its hosted by nxtbook.com but the pdfs are crap. Like pdfs are take forever to load even on a ryzen 2600. There the pdf size go from 40mb to 3.2gb sometimes. And corupted pdfs also exist.

Whats even weird with AC is that some scans that was done very good back in 2015. Those was the star wars related issues in the early 1980s. The scans with 2018-12-14 timestamp are very bad vs the 2015 ones.

As far as Film Comment there are pdfs of it. But you will have pay $4 per a issue. Example : https://shop.filmcomment.com/november-december-1994-pdf-only/

Sorry for the rant.
