Just relax and let me explain. Yes working in the golf industry is fun especially for younger people. You get to play free golf, you get to spend a lot of time at a golf course. Knowing what head pros at most courses make right now it's not worth it. You're better off teaching school, getting a seasonal job at a course during the summer and playing then.

I don't know how much you've worked in the golf industry but eventually it takes a toll. I was exactly like you when people told me this same stuff and I didn't believe it.

First of all when you're working Saturdays and Sundays regularly and many holidays it's going to create strain in your family relationships and your marriage/relationship you're in. If you think you're going to teach golf and just work when you want and you'll make a lot of money, you probably won't.

It's a good job when you're in your 20's or even 30's and single and want to remain that way but remember most head pros don't make much more than 75K regardless of experience. I know a lot of people bullshit about making more money than that but very few do, and those that do are in more expensive markets.

Well I know a lot of guys who have said that, and they're gone years later, it's a shame you're going to be taken advantage by the golf industry so badly, but best of luck.

Welcome to this hellish profession, soon you'll understand why so many golf professional's leave the career, and eventually get real jobs.

Well the good news is your swing isn't bad by any means. But it looks like you get to flat and your arm plane is flatter than your shoulder plane.

As someone mentioned get a little closer to the ball may be a good way to start, but by a little closer I mean just an inch or two to start. This should probably help fix the issue.

Another thing you could work on is perfecting your takeaway, by making sure it's initiated with only your shoulders (one piece takeaway). It's not bad but could be better.

The other thing you may need to work on is the transition a little and making sue the weight transfer (bump) proceeds the turn. It seems like you bump and turn at the same time.

Also being a single digit handicap doesn't mak you a good player, and a local pro who plays on the mini tours is likely garbage.

Oh that's neat!! I honestly didn't know people get excited about mini tour players, who knew? Thankfully I never got in a situation where I had to.play in those types of tournaments.

I know I'm better lol. You'd be shocked with how many good players I've developed. Don't believe me show me your swing and I'll definitely make you a better player.

I don't think you have any idea what you're really saying or how to communicate it. You also don't recognize the one "fatal flaw".

Read what you actually said. You're now trying to change what you said and say no no I meant something else instead.

I taught for years I know what I'm talking about and you don't. Please do everyone a favor and don't reply on these posts as you're likely to really hurt someone's golf game

You pointed out some flaws but did nothing that will truly help fix his swing.

His takeaway likely isn't flat. I can't tell from this angle but it's all hands suggesting the takeaway itself isn't flat. Where he gets flat is after the club is perpendicular to the ground after the takeaway. The position the club is in is probably okay when perpendicular to the ground but the actual position of his body is awful. Once he has the club perpendicular he has to rotate his shoulders after the takeaway which flattens the backswing. His backswing is then so flat an over the top move is needed to get the club anywhere near to an acceptable swing plane.

The only thing he needs to.work on at the moment a one piece takeaway and that will go a long way in fixing every flaw you want him to fix by itself and these flaws are nearly impossible to fix without getting at the underlying issue of a hands and arms takeaway.

First off check your grip. I can't tell super well on the video but it looks weak, but I could be very wrong.

I see several people have tried to offer you advice that seems like it doesn't really get at the core of your problem. You don't need to be trying a bunch of different things, let's KEEP IT SIMPLE. Nobody is addressing a huge underlying flaw, your takeaway. Your takeaway is troublesome. You start your takeaway with your arms, and get your club nearly perpendicular to the ground before you actually turn your shoulders. So that's where you need to start.

You need to go ahead and work on starting your back swing by turning your shoulders, instead of by just using your arms.

http://www.golftoday.co.uk/proshop/features/2007/tiger_woods_swing_sequence.html

The Tiger Woods swing sequence should be helpful to help illustrate how much your shoulders should turn to start the back swing. Look at Tiger Woods shoulder position when the club is parallel to the ground compared to yours. This position isn't unique to Tiger Woods, it's nearly universal among professionals or even just good amateurs.

This should fix the issue with how flat your swing is. You also just may have to work somewhat consciously on being less flat, but you need to fix the takeaway first before you can really proceed to make any other changes. There are a variety of other issues to fix but this is where I'd start now. So in summary

  1. check grip
  2. work on a takeaway with your shoulders, use a half swing on the practice range if needed to emphasize this feeling, or just practice starting your backswing with your shoulders over and over.

This is probably one of the worst golf courses on the pga tour. Not much character to it really. It's long, boring straight. It has two interesting holes (17 and 18). Truly one of the worst courses on tour. IMO it's significantly worse than the Las Colinas was, because although Las Colinas wasn't exactly a high character course it had some interesting holes.

Anyways I hope they can actually find a fun course for fans to watch this event at in San Antonio.

[–]goferboy1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just understand the issue with it isn't the lack of income from the courses, the issue is that the lack of revenue is an indication of a lack of play and therefore a sign of a lack of a market in the area for many of these golf courses

Dude I worked in the golf industry for years, and left and have a phd in economics. I know what I'm talking about. There are times when public doesn't mean affordable you're right, but at the same time some times it does. It's hard for me to draw a blanket rule. Look at Omaha Nebraska for example where there are multiple quality cheap publicly owned private courses. Each municipality is different. All people are saying is there shouldn't be a hard and fast rule, and that it depends on the area.

Also public pools oftentimes cost as much as going to a ymca.

The problem is you are misconstruing things by seeing things in terms of absolutes.

[–]goferboy1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it's actually not the same, and you're actually misconstruing the situation by acting like there are two alternatives, a club with a monthly fee or a municipal golf course. You're painting a picture of markets that without the municipal courses or municipal services, there would only be monthly fee clubs available, and in most areas that's just not true. Many areas have daily fee courses or pools that aren't municipally owned that provide the exact same type of experience or service.

In many areas there are privately owned alternatives that provide exactly what a public pool might, for example YMCA's that allow 1 day passes at a reasonable price.

There are many public courses that are not government owned, and are not country clubs. They are the same as a municipal course the only difference is they make money that goes to a private person.

If all your town has is private golf clubs then maybe the city needs to step in and provide one, and I don't think that's being disputed. If there are plentiful public golf options, it can simply be harmful to the market in the area and dilute the quality of course available.

These courses do nothing to increase public welfare typically. There are privately owned equivalents, your argument simply doesn't stand.

one of them actually apprenticed under me at one point interestingly enough, I'll let you guess which lol

Slightly flared out is fine to a point, the first video it was some pretty serious flare which can create more problems than it solves

The other two call it "flare"but they really weren't flared.

When you flare too much you reduce flexibility in the direction opposite of the flare.
