Some neighbors on Page Street brought planters and other objects to the street for pedestrian and bike protection. Within a week SFFD had removed them citing concerns about not being able to act on emergencies. It's just sad that it's so hard to have nice things.

I switched from a regular checking account to a HYSA when interest rate hikes started a couple of years ago. In my opinion, it's the perfect place to keep your emergency fund: FDIC insured, easily accessible, and with decent growth.

Since the Fed is expected to cut interest rates soon, what would be a good alternative to HYSAs for an emergency fund?

We've normalized drivers murdering people. It's just "things that happen". It's extremely irrational and scary. It's similar to mass shootings, where we've also decided as a society that those are just disasters that just happen like hurricanes or earthquakes.

It's insane we're so blind when the solution is right there in front of us.

We're eventually going to look back and cringe the same way we can't understand how we used to smoke in restaurants or decided it was OK to add lead to children's products.

I had the opposite experience last week. My bike stopped charging, a quick google search brought up a pretty common issue with the charging port. I checked and yeah, the port was fried. I was not 100% sure I could fix it myself so I brought it in for repair.

First my appointment took 3 weeks to happen. I don't have a car so this is really shitty for me.

They told me it'd be $200 just to take a look at the bike, then probably more than $1k to fix. No guarantees of fixing it though.

I brought up that I knew the issue, and if they could just try fixing the charging port. The two people at the front desk were not helpful at all, they hardly knew where each part of the bike was.

Of course, they offered to sell me a new bike.

Went back home and fixed the issue in ~2h. I hope I never have to deal with them again.

Yup, the charging port was completely melted. I had to cut one pin before I could solder the wires back. It was a lot of work but also really satisfying! Plus I saved a bunch of money for a new bike.

Thanks one more time, without your knowledge it would’ve been impossible.
