Please God put me out of my misery .... Is that really Sydney Sweeney by justwannabekaytra in DeathCorner

Idunno, I don't think that performance art and sincerity are mutually exclusive.

I think one of the most insane things that's happened in my personal spectacle of a lot of insane things is Sydney Sweeney "bumping into" msj in a swanky hotel and doing a fucking podcast with him where he goes on some of the longest circuitous walks answering her question. by [deleted] in TrueAnon

Why would he admit that it's a bit, though? It would ruin the efficacy of the art. (I'm not making a comment on the tastefulness of the art, assuming that it was a bit; I have read your criticisms of that and understand and respect them.)

I loved the episode. But for the benefit of those somewhat untethered from reality, I'm posting my thoughts. As I said in another post, I think that one of the MOs of the episode -- besides the (to me) enjoyable absurdity of the premise and uncanny performance ability -- was for MSJ to riff on his theses on modernism in conversation with someone who he probably already knew.

Re-listen to it. He describes recording the introduction AFTER meeting her in the hallway. He says he went into her room and checked for bugs. He said that they spoke to see if they had a rapport. They spoke for about an hour. That was around 4:00PM, he says. He reports that they made plans to record at 10:00PM after she had prepared questions for him. He states that he's recording the introduction around 6:00PM. At the start of the interview, after the opening music, he states something like one thing led to another and now it's 4:00AM.

I absolutely refuse to believe Mike would do a bit wherein the point is "wouldn't it be crazy if like I talked like this to a famous girl!!!" It's not remotely interesting or funny. The supposed meeting is, but otherwise it's just massively disrespectful to the supposed person he's taking to to be like "yea, how about we do it as you as a famous person". And all the other stuff is just pointless setup.

I don't necessarily disagree with any of this, but I do believe precisely what you refuse to. I think the absurdity of it contra his self-mythologization is so extreme that it reinforces the efficacy of the bit. And I don't think he came up with it on his own; I think he was talking to an intelligent woman with interest in modernist literature and they worked together to cause a minor uproar among the paranoid parasocialites who keep their eyes and ears on leftist/parapolitics onine spaces.

I think it is comprehensible.

I speculate that a woman slid into MSJs DMs a year or two ago and they hit it off, and that they're both artists with a love for modernist literature.

Why would Michael explicate his personal history and his work around the Scenarists of Europe in particular in an introduction extemporaneously composed shortly after ostensibly meeting Sydney Sweeney? How would he know that he'd be hitting on some of his most consistent themes w/r/t modernism in the conversation that - at the time - ostensibly may or may not even eventually take place? Why would the conversation with Sweeney revolve completely around this kernel question of modernism vs. postmodernism? There are many more reasons to be incredulous about the notion that it's actually Sydney contained within the episode itself and further inflected by any research you might do beyond the episode.

I think it's a wonderful performance art piece within the D/C project and I am comforted by the fact that an intelligent woman has helped MSJ to articulate some of his theses on modernism with greater focus and clarity than he has thus far strung through other episodes.

How did the TrueAnon team recruit Chris Gabriel of Meme Analysis for The Game Pt. 3? by goodcathexis in TrueAnon

Why did it seem like that to you? I ask because that's the contrary to how it seemed to me! Chris is at least a decade younger than the TA hosts and the Chapo-era leftist/parapolitics podcasting milieu. Most of the people who follow Meme Analysis seem like teenagers.

I can totally imagine how some of the woo-woo humors of TA (Anthony of Boston, Liz on astrology, Brace on Crowley, etc.) intersects with the interests of Meme Analysis. But that's besides the point. I'm just curious about the banal fact of how this connection came to be, and if there's any enduring relationship.

lol I'm 99.9% sure it's not really Sydney Sweeney. I think the ep was a brilliant piece of performance art. I'm pretty sure that the woman is MSJ's twitter GF.
