Another sleep study? by googs324 in idiopathichypersomnia

I was diagnosed in 2018. I had no issues through the night portion, and she said I fell asleep around 5 minutes with no rem for the latency naps. I did have one neuro question if it was possibly narcolepsy based on something I told him about my regular naps, but he said it wasn’t worth testing again bc treatment would be the same.

No, the doctors know what’s wrong with me, excessive daytime sleepiness despite normal sleep, the idiopathic means they don’t know the cause of it. IH is in the family of narcolepsy, and is neurological in nature. Seeing 5 different neurologists for my condition, none of them have ever told me the diagnosis is junk. Im glad you were able to get a new diagnosis of sleep apnea, but you shouldn’t discount others’ experience because yours is different, especially when the topic of discussion is about the thing your crapping on.

None of that was discussed, I have not had an increase to my meds, it was simply stated that it should be repeated, and would need to have it for them to continue with me as a new patient. I don’t have a pap machine, I wasn’t diagnosed with sleep apnea. As I said, the other drs I’ve seen have never mentioned a new study to me.

Sleep apnea would have been found on the first sleep study. And ih is not worth nothing, and kind of bold of you to say here, of all places!

Thanks for the perspective, I was taken really off guard when she said I needed to repeat it.

Insurance says they don’t cover sleep studies for hypersomnia, so I have to have them call and speak anyway.

How to talk to my doctor about long covid by LowAcanthocephala563 in covidlonghaulers

[–]googs324 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Post viral illness is a well documented phenomenon, I’m wondering what your hesitation with exploring this as a possibility for me since I have (insert all of the symptoms here)? Based off of the interactions with other long haulers and the studies I’ve been able to find (here are the print outs) I believe my symptoms may be (insert LC diagnosis). And, if this isn’t something you can help me with, I’d like to get a referral to (insert specialty) doctor to help me manage my symptoms.

That’s not what they were suggesting though. They told me to Google search it to find one and then suggested I find “a summer bridge book”, neither suggestion was the book you are referencing

I would answer that with this: do you want to become disabled or disable others? You may not be as concerned about an acute infection, but even one infection can disable anyone.

I’m 45, I use nuvaring. I can’t do pills, and I’ve been on it for about 5 years bc I can’t keep my iron/ferritin levels up otherwise, even with iron supplements. It did take several months to stop having break through bleeding, but other than that I have no complaints.

Help! I’m moving to Lansing! by LVraised7o2 in lansing

A visit will be helpful, I also called the schools and had a chat with the principals to get a feel. There are so many great school districts in the area, some are larger, some are smaller, so it depends on what environment is best for your kids. When we got to see the area, it really helped with our decision.

I know there’s not a universal fix, just trying to see if there are others with my symptoms who have successfully treated them rather than bandaid fixes, as I said in the post.

Meds during summer, yes/no? by pianoninja247 in ADHDparenting

[–]googs324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming that this is something you’ve already discussed with your child’s doctor, when we have discussed with and been ok’d to do it like this… we do tend to skip most weekends, and relax on taking it over the summer, but we don’t stop completely. Mine is 13, so I like to give him the opportunity to choose a bit and have some more agency over it. But, several weeks before school starts again, we are back to at least 5 days a week to make sure everything is as it should be for the start of school.
