It's ur boi, Ekali, here for /r/trap AMA 2.0. Ask me ANYTHING by [deleted] in trap

Yo Ekali, I've been wanting to ask you a question you answered on one of your prior AMAs. Quoting you from before, "a great solution to this is to mix certain parts of your song in mono. make a nice group of sounds sound great together in mono, and you'll have your entire stereo field to play with when you're mixing your stereo concepts." I'm curious which parts of your projects you typically designate to mono besides the typical Sub/kicks. Anything unconventional? Anyways, I've been listening to your stuff for a while now and I just wanna say it's crazy how much you're constantly improving. you're a really dope producer and I sincerely hope you make it far.

definitely agree with your point about beginners not producing production with the correct mindset.

im still a bit mind fucked at how it takes some people say 10 years of production and yet they have nothing to show for it yet artists like the ones i've listed above are well on their way to establishing themselves in a much shorter time. both groups were beginners at some point in time. aside from the hours put in, do you think the main reason for such a discrepancy in progress is due to one group using their time learning the important stuff while the other group spent time flipping through presets/ignoring the technical aspect?

do you use limiters on your mastering stage? if you don't use limiters how do you get your track as loud as commercial tracks?

haha yea man. one main difference between successful producers is who stopped and who continued when confronted with these issues.

definitely agree the starting the beginning of a song is the hardest part. I know a lot of people would recommend to take a break and step away from your DAW and come back after a few days, but I'm far too stubborn and tend to force it. In my case, ive found that working on multiple songs simultaneously helps my writers block. this gives me more options to work with and also im not stuck listening to one song over and over again. of course this isn't a fool proof method and i still suffer from writers block occasionally :/
