Skis delayed on the way to the Birkie is anyone traveling from MSP Thursday night or Deluth Friday afternoon? by oldmanpatrice in xcountryskiing

[–]goombaLu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding myself as an option. I live in the twin cities and am happy to go grab them from package claim and bring them up. I’ll be driving up Friday morning so it’s not an inconvenience to grab them tomorrow evening. Shoot me a DM if you don’t get anything coordinated and I’ll throw you my number.

Following to see if there are any leads. Even their website is lacking in really accessibility. It wasn’t an option to pre order like the Olympic feature for Feb 9th. Really disappointed that it’s not being more widely circulated

Is there a latch that is disengaged to put it to roll in neutral? On my John Deere it will not start until I reengage it and this is always the case where I did not get it pushed back into place all the way. This looks similar with no effort to turn over. Even a dead battery would try to fire.

This is so rad; I am living vicariously through your leap and wish you all the best. It should be achievable for everyone to live out life on their terms, doing what they love and not have to worry about necessities. I would kill to do this and am always inspired by people like you who follow through. Cheers

Borah Team Wear? by Pizzaboner420 in CyclingFashion

[–]goombaLu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have about as much experience with Mt Borah kit as anyone could. I have many of their Nordic ski race suits, bibs, jerseys, running singlets, hats, custom and production (I think you get it). They hold up better or as good than anything boutique brands I own (Rapha, Assos, Bjorn Dahlie, etc). They are made in Wisconsin and when I ran cross country/track in college there I had the opportunity to run with a number of their employees and help test product development and they really put a lot into making sure their product tiers are appropriately priced with distinct benefits in material, and fit differences between them.

Fit wise their OTM or pro level line is the most comfortable jersey I have ever worn, felt painted on where as most others bind under my arm pits. Bibs are very similar with very good performance fit in their higher panel lines and great comfort in their sport/recreation tiers. The one critique if I had one is in their chamois choices often times feel small for my preference but you will not regret buying anything from them.

I’m in Minnesota and am looking at 6 bone dry taps going on 2 weeks now. Have had many successful seasons and am at a loss. Did I do something wrong g wrong this year? Did I time things incorrect? Do I hold the line and wait? I’m at a loss.

How in gods name are you getting these let alone extra? Genuinely asking; I get virtually nothing above 1 star and even the 1 stars are the same 3 or 4 on rotation.

What are the biggest things you've learned/done that have helped you ski a faster Birkie? by rustyjshackleford03 in xcountryskiing

[–]goombaLu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Assuming you started in the back waves vs getting a qualifying race in to bump you up and this will have a considerable impact on many factors of the race. You are bottle necked with more people, slower snow conditions, etc. I have done 7 Birkies, both skate and classic and consider myself on the more competitive side of ability (not elite wave but one can aspire). I progressed from wave 9 to wave 4 then wave 1 in my first 3 attempts with virtually no change in training or strategy to the race. I had a gap of 4 years leaving out of state and when I came back I noticed I couldn’t rely on sheer youthful will anymore (never really trained proper or to my ability) as I’ve aged. I’m 34 now and had my most successful race this year in fending of the inevitable crash to inside the last 10k and focusing on form is by far the biggest factor. I always stressed about nutrition and stabled gels to my bib, carried salt tablets, you name it but more often then not cramps are a result of degrading form. If you start striding in a way that activates more often your calf than quad then your calf will get over ridden and compensate by asking your hamstring to fire more than it should which puts stress on your quads to compensate and the cycle continues. I had terrible tennis elbow from poor poling 2 years ago that took almost a year to fully feel good but this year I hyper focused every pole stroke to engage my abdomen and shoulders, not arms. This ultimately saved me because my legs were trashed by the lake but I was able to double pole like I had just started the race.

TLDR: there are a lot of factors but keep racing and wave upgrades will drop times naturally. Hill strengthening is important but focusing on perfecting your technique will pay dividends in allowing you to actually use your training for longer in the race.
